Can someone explain why going slow at the start equals less clones? Had reasonable success last night but lost one of our pops due to picking the wrong clone twice and some bad luck with Terror WS spam.

Ah! That's what happened to us on that pop. Do people have specific number %s? Like 50% = 1 clone, 25% = 2 clones?
From what I am reading:
50% (or above) = 1 clone
33% = 3 clones (or was it 2?)
25% = 4 clones (or 3? Not sure if people counted the original)
Also seems that you can get just 1 clone when the % is between 50 and 34%, but needs testing afaik.
We've just been doing 5 melee with cor/brd buffs and PD, sometimes sch embrava added. Always seem to pick the wrong clone, but was only a problem when there was 3 clones out and Terror hit.
Would you suggest using PD before pop and working it down (slightly less DoT at beginning until smn around 40-50%), then finish off hard?
or:
Pop and have only a few melee on it until PD is up and then speed up damage? Risk PD being stunned/smn dying, but PD lasts longer.
Just curious what other people are doing.
I am unfamiliar with the fight, but given the HP constraints on his clones, does holding him for a select duration cause him to spawn zero clones? Any advantage to that?
I'm a complete outsider on this thread, but I've always enjoyed seeing people post their relics. Any chance arch DL and PW strats/drops could be put in another thread and keep this one actual completed weapons? Just a thought, not a true criticism.
Hey Ala/Neo;
I'd recommend to keep with the opening PD... Perhaps slow initial DPS and Retain TP until after the split to reduce the potential for a triple split. We SMNs are so squishy, and the AoE range is so high, paired with massive damage and SMN's low HP values, that it would be very difficult to get a mid battle PD off successfully.
I know he doesn't attack while he's splitting, but given the Alexander delay between summoning and casting, the SMN would already need to be standing at the ADL's feet prior to the start of the summon animation to get Alex off before the multi-TP move.
Btw, don't know if you commented on it, but seriously, screw the level cap status ailment on this fight. Causes avatars to be unsummoned... Lost an Alexander and 2hr because the level cap effect after summoning, pre-cast.
It got slept as it readied PD and thus reset the BP timer before back to back agas killed the SMN. I just don't think the risk is worth it; even if you buy yourself another 20s on PD, your melees may be affected by status ailments (unless you have a mage taking them off which is gonna be another person to bring and for us, our mages/summoners are 95% mules.) With 5 melees, the extra 20s PD isn't gonna matter much anyway because it still usually resplits again before you can kill the 2nd one if you pick the wrong one first.
We have SMNs use PD immediately after pop. They've never failed to get it off yet and probably buys you 10-15 seconds over using it before start.
After that they can have Ramuh use Shock Squall whenever possible, preferably just as he summoned a clone. It lasts a hell of a long time, we were surprised.
No he will spawn a clone even if you hold him and don't do damage. He will also spawn again if you don't kill him after the cloning.
One note to mention if you split the 2 clones up (kiting etc) and he goes to resplit, the fake clone will teleport to the real Arch DL before splitting again.
As far as PD goes the only real cock block is the Terror, ive seen this last longer than PD and then its basically just rape time for us. We have started to pop astral flow at the start of the fight and wait until 75% to start summoning. By the time alex gets off PD he has usally summoning his clones around the 55% mark. Only really works though if you stack your pt in a corner during the first phase and the whm spams curaga.
Oh and for the record our pt setup is.
4-6 Ukon wars
2 brds
1 whm
1-2 thfs ( only usually subs /whm for diaga for phase 2 split )
and 2 smns ( mules mostly )
In all honesty, I don't see delaying PD changing that much. If you use PD on pop and it wears off, then it's extremely likely ADL has cloned for a second time. I can't see an extra 5 seconds of PD changing that from a loss to a win.
^, just had another instance of variable cast times post split. After split solid casting every second till full wipe, add had similar behavior. Not instacast but basically instacast lol. I now have 3 sets of different AI post split and am a little confused by this information. I think the #ing system might be in reference to something completely different than fake v real adls.
The reason for curaga spam is that honestly the TP feeding isnt worth the wait. Since we pop PD at around 75% the first 25% we are taking damage so curaga is just more effective andsince he likes to open with -ga spells ( at least thats what ive noticed ) this just seems a common sence tactic to bypass anyone getting insta giped until PD. My personal belief is that upon split each clone may open with a TP move but has its own TP build, to me at least kiting the clones seems very easy, they wont be spamming many retard TP moves mostly just -ga spells and the odd melee move which can easily be outranged.
The only problem i see in this fight is A.) finding the correct clone, at the moment best guess is as good as anything. B.) Suriving the terror / hoping it wears before PD does. Beyond this getting to Phase 2 is easy no matter what tatic you use but in both P1 and P2 in my experience he opens with either a TP move or -ga.
@Kidnoftle I watched your attempt last night and again another reason for stacking is purely to stop what happened to you, ie clone spawning ontop of your whm/mules and insta killing half of them. Ontop of that im not sure if you were trying to take it slow but im pretty sure i saw your mnks 2 hours but there dmg was terrible ( not having a go just noticeing that they might have been dual boxed? ). Either way id personally try and keep anyone whos on the hate table for P1 stacked to avoid what happened to you.
When you say, "open w/ -ga spells" are you implying that he isn't casting the whole fight or that he casts at infrequent intervals or frequent but longish intervals?
