Is it said that this is a large part of the reason I have taken a break from making relics? Not the getting huge amounts of currency, not farming attestations (though that can be damn annoying too), or the fragments or the wait times but stupid mf trials

You have no idea. I still dunno how in the hell i managed to suffer through 2,000 undead kills. With a dark based magic weapon skill. And without bashing my head into a wall. At least not that I can remember. Or did I? /shrug

The trials are what makes me frown @ the though of doing yoichi, however, it wont be as annoying as amano seeing as if u have a x2-5 attacking weapon paired with yoichi there wont be a "oh my x2-x3 dmg killed the mob before i could ws... Se be trollin.

The trade off being that in the few occasions where ranged DD is of preferance it is a not so close second to annihilator.
