While Aymur is an incredible looking weapon (seriously tempting because I really enjoy the design >_>), Guttler is definitely useful in more situations. Makes sense to do that (first). Also, I'm pretty sure it's still not actually her playing.

Please do explain, I want to understand.
How is Guttler "definitely useful in more situations" than Aymur?

Not trolling, I honestly want to know.
Because to me it seems like that's absolutely not "definitely", and I'm not sure if I can think of any situation where Guttler would be better than Aymur.
But maybe I'm missing something big and I'm willing to know.

Mostly due to the fact that it's extremely cumbersome to maintain aftermath on 1h jobs(besides dnc) and usually counterproductive. Mind you it would be great to have for a completionist bst, but I can't really see that many situations that it would be ideal in.

    I still don't understand.
Even without 100% uptime AM you're still gonna rock a weapon that has higher base damage, slightly lower DPS, and an AM that applies to your pet as well.
How is this gonna be worse than Guttler?
DPS is almost the same, only difference I can see is the 40 attack, which surely does matter but I don't see it getting better than Aymur's not 100% AM? And surely Guttler's AM isn't an interesting variable in the system, is it?

If you play your cards right getting TP during the 3 minutes AM3 is active should be fairly easy with those amount of DA/TA, maybe you could use another OA offhand instead than other typical options (Astolfos?)
Altough I see how if we're talking about Guttler+STRAstolfo vs Aymur+OA there's a bigger difference than "just" 40 attack.

If we're looking at only the benefits that the master gets from their axe, Guttler is going to win a majority of the time. BST is horribly attack starved and has no way of increasing its attack aside from using an inferior sub job or by eating food, thus the 40 from Guttler is an expensive commodity to lose, you won't be able to reasonably maintain a respectable AM in most situations to counteract this.

If we're adding the pet in, aftermath, enhanced pet attack, and the Ready enhancement all make for pretty immense additions, particularly since pets tend to also be horribly attack starved.

I can understand this, especially if you use different offhands (like I wrote above) it's even more than "just" 40. But still I'm not completely convinced that alone compensates for AM, even if you don't fulltime it.
Maybe I'm just underestimating the att impact.

I don't see why we shouldn't add it in.
When exactely do you intend to use BST without a Pet? And if you do, why? It's like you're gimping yourself by deciding not to use a pet.
Even in zerg situations things could be ok, mantaining AM3 wouldn't really be an issue and I'm sure Aymur would make BST a decent DD whereas Guttler probably wouldn't be enough to close the gap, even at capped haste.

No one else mentioned pets and seemed to ignore most of the bits on Aymur that make it useful, so I assumed we were ignoring pets for whatever reason. As far as the loss of attack is concerned, it makes a pretty massive difference for a job that has to choose between attack buffs and an offhand weapon. The AM3 every now and again won't compensate for the overall lower damage output due to losing such a significant chunk of attack score.

Regardless, neither axe is enough for your last sentence. BST's issues are rooted in the fact that they're stuck with either NIN sub for dualwield or WAR sub for Berserk, Fencer, and Double Attack, can't have both, limiting the offensive benefits they gain from subjob to pretty much only Dual Wield, and have no strong offensive traits or abilities of their own in a majority of circumstances. Ruinator is a great WS, but it falls off in power dramatically for BST once you get out of Dynamis and whatnot and start to put it against harder targets. The pet itself simply isn't enough to bridge the gap. Effectively you're looking at which weapon makes low to mid range BST-friendly activities more efficient until SE decides to more properly equip BST for high end content, perhaps by granting native Dual Wield. Other issues exist, but lack of powerful DD abilities and traits is the biggest one as far as I'm concerned.

While I think that in zerg situations Aymur would make BST a bit better on their own, the problem is that your pets dont benefit from zerg buffs, which is sadly hindering BST to participate in any zerg type scenario :X. The Gap just gets that much bigger between you + your pet and other players the more buffs are applied.
