So within 3 days of each other I have a monitor, my xbox 360, and 2 laptops all break. The laptops' batteries are broken, and neither my monitor nor my 360 will turn on at all. I know it's not some extraordinary circumstance because my 360 just got back from Microsoft after I shipped it in for the red ring of death. Anybody know what may be the cause of this? I'm so pissed I can hardly think right now, but I think it may be due to shitty wiring in my house. This may just be misplaced anger, but if anybody knows what the cause of this could be I'd appreciate it. I'm looking at hundreds of dollars worth of repairs right now, especially considering the monitor is fried and my 360 is not covered for this type of damage.

EDIT: I should add that there have been no storms recently, so that doesn't explain it.

Yeah, plugged into a power bar but my room only has 2/6 outlets that work so inevitably they need to be plugged into one. I can check plugged directly into the wall.

It sounds like you got hit with a power surge that just ate all your equipment :/ Sucks if you don't have homeowners/renters insurance.

If you don't, you can do something that i've NEVER done >.> Sign up for renter's insurance, wait till the next storm and have your insurance company build you a new rig....

you don't need a storm to have a surge in power. You said you have shitty wiring, so a short anywhere in your house can do it... Hell even a fridge turning on the compressor creates a considerable dip in power that has the ability to do some damage to electronics especially when old corroded wires are increasing resistance. When I was a kid, my dad blew out a tv by turning on his table saw while my mom was vacuuming once. Got a new TV out of it so I was happy >.>

I would look into a uninterruptible power supply (UPS).

A battery backup is not only good for when all power goes out but can help protect your equipment from under voltage, over voltage, line noise, and voltage spike as such. This should elevate any shitty wiring in your house. Just make sure you purchase the right size for what you are planing to plug into it. APC has a nice little tool to help you determine what size you would need to accommodate your needs.
