Warning, it's still fresh, so you may have some problems:

Step1: Sync your iphone with Itunes, make a backup

Step2: ON YOUR iPHONE, go to jailbreakme.com

Step3: Jailbreak

Step4: Profit!

Some people lose the use of Facetime/MMS after jailbreaking, here are some fixes and solutions~

IF THAT DOES NOT WORK FOR YOU, try this one:

Basically the JB loses the MMS and FT settings, so what you need to do is restore form a backup (a backup that was not JB) and after the restore, the settings for MMS & FT will be recognized again.

It's just important that you don't have your JB iPhone do a backup first, or else when you restore from backup it'll be restoring from that JB backup which already lost the settings. If this does happen, then you'll need to completely restore.

So what you should be able to do is JB your phone, connect to iTunes and cancel the sync and then restore from backup.


1. RESTORE FIRMWARE
2. SETUP AS NEW PHONE
3. JAILBREAK
4. RESTORE BACKUP
5. TRY RESTARTING


make sure your backup is from BEFORE you jailbroke the phone! You may want to just try restoring the backup without everything else. If you dont have a non jailbroken backup youll most likely have to restore the firmware and back it up BEFORE jailbreaking.



I've done this on 2 phones so far and have installed alot of cydia apps restarting the phones numerous times and both MMS and FACETIME are still there and functional.

If what you are looking for isn't covered in this first post (and it most likely isn't) then read through the thread. Updates to iPhone/itunes have caused much of the information to be outdated. I continually update the first post with JUST info on the current Jailbreak, the rest of the thread covers everything else. The later in the thread the post, the more current the information is in relation to firmwares and patches. Hence why it most likely is no longer covered in the first post.

I've seen a lot of people with questions about iPhones, let alone even more with questions about Jailbreaking. A simple google search will solve most of those problems, but after you are jailbroken, what to do? What apps out there are really good? Is there any game worth paying 5-15$ for on the app store?

Lets say there is an update to the NES/GBA emulator, most of us may not find that out, but if you do, let us know in this thread. Lets say you came across a really sick theme for your apps, show us! Got a non-laggy copy of Pokemon Fire Red on your iPhone? Share! Did you find a game worth buying on app store? We want it. Post it in this thread.


Jailbreaking is easy, and safe, you can reverse the process via an iPhone restore in iTunes. Jailbreaking enables you to use custom themes, sounds, homebrews, emulators, user created software etc on your device. Unlocking allows your phone to be used with other carriers other than AT&T. If you wish to "Unlock" your iPhone for use with other carriers, I'm sure you can get that information from some BG members, google, or even that site, but I have no knowledge on the subject. Just be aware that "Unlocking" and "Jailbreaking" are 2 completely different things, and that if you want to Unlock your phone, you need to do some research first because you may not be able to if you Jailbreak.

No one on these forums, or in this thread, is responsible for anything that may happen to your iPhone/Touch. If it somehow crashes, because of something you did that you saw here, sorry, it's your problem not ours. Again, a quick google search will tell you anything you need to know on these subjects, however, Jailbreaking is reversible through iTunes so keep that in mind.

I'll start.

I bought Flick Fishing and TouchGrind this week. I don't typically buy apps but I was bored at physical therapy. Both of these games only occupied me for about 20minutes combined, and weren't worth the money. The fishing game was cute, and touchgrind is a great idea, but it just didn't do it for me. TouchGrind only has 1-2 skateparks and you pretty much just roll around by yourself and try to beat your own highscore within 100seconds. Highest I got was 1.7million, I only play the game in the bathroom now lol.

I'm looking for a new theme for my phone. There are so many hundreds in cydia I don't know which to try. Basically, I'm looking to find a cool theme for my apps and maybe my keyboard etc, but I don't want to lose my current wallpaper. Most themes I download have their own wallpapers that I really dislike. I want my backround, with cool looking apps. Any suggestions?

My suggested apps if you don't have it for whatever reason: Categories (requires jailbreak).

Another new app that is pretty neat is for WoW players, there is now a mobile authenticator (if you don't like the keychain one). It's free to download from the app store, but requires you to have a blizzard authenticator. New software update in the summer is all, same phone. Basically it's a huge OS update that gives the iPhone a ton of new features that it should already have lol. We are on OS 2.21 right now I think, and they are updating to 3.0 (via download through iTunes) and the new OS will give like 100 new features or something. MMS, copy and paste, new ways to develop apps.

Yes it's safe, it's not a new phone, they are just releasing a big patch for it. They randomly update the iPhone all the time as it is, this one is just MAJOR since it provides some really huge features.

You want to view scans on the iphone? Just save them as images and put them on your phone as photos. You can zoom and move around and such.

That seems pointless to me though, since you most likely already read the scan while putting it on. I guess unless, you have a large folder of scans, and imported the folder into your iphone.

You can view manga websites online through the phone and view them there as well.

That's true I can view them via a connection, but my commute involves me 30 minutes under the ground so I get no reception.

I have read some of the scans but never dedicated enough to sit down and read it through proper.

On the subject of putting my photos onto the phone, I got told you can't use the iPhone as a storage device? Or do I need some third party app (on the PC) to enable the iPhone to be used like this?

And how hard is it to sort music? In such a way that, for example, I want to put 1 album which has 2 discs on it, would it be sorted like:

[Music Root]
[Album] > [Disk 1]
#####> [Disk 2]

or

[Music Root]
[Album Disk 1]
[Album Disk 2]

One thing I am really keen to use is Coverflow. I always like gimmicks like that, and finding official CD covers for my albums or making them! Are they hard to manage? And if the second example proves true, it'll be odd to say, put FF7 OST on the iPhone and have the same album cover for each disc (4)... but it doesn't really matter.

Do you have itunes at all? or an Ipod? Ever used one? Music sorting is done for you and is easy.

You can sort music however you want. My stadium arcadium both discs are under in a stadium arcadium folder and not separate. However for metallica I have S&M disc1 and 2 named as such. You can do this however you want.


As for manga... If you were to take all your mangas, throw them into a big folder called "Mangas", and import that into your phone when you sync it then it'll give it its own folder under photos automatically. It automatically has separate sections under "photos" for pictures taken with the camera, and every time you import a photo folder it gives it its own section under photos so they never mix.

I wouldn't have a need for that since I read mine online, the only downside is you have to do this all from your desktop before you take your commute, but that's not so difficult. If you have a ton of Manga, it might be pretty worth it. Yes you can zoom and manipulate the picture and such. Rotating you cannot do however, at least not until 3.0 in summer.

Coverflow: If you download an album online and it comes with the coverflow, itunes will recognize it and use it. If you Burn a CD into itunes, typically itunes will use the cover thats on the disc. I've never made my own cover, or associated a cover or picture with any songs I have, so I don't know how you would put your own on for like FF7... But I'm sure there is a way under info or something, probably just need to save it under edit song info or something, and just require certain image size.

About the rotating, I CAN turn the iPhone sideways and it'll rotate to landscape, at least, right? Like all the other aps/videos... =D

And seperate folders for pics, even better. It's all coming to reality now... ho ho ho!

Coverflow, mweh, not too concerned at the end of the day but I like to show off if people look at my phone and see all these pretty coverflows... lol. It's a gimmick really and pointless I know, but just incase...

EDIT: I have played around with iTunes/iPod (mini) (my sister's) but I never got to spend much time with it or to put music on it. But it should be fine, I'm aware of how they make these apps for idiots so it shouldn't be too hard... but just incase really, so I'm asking here.

You CANNOT add music to your iPhone without using iTunes.

You can put it on there as a file, but the iPhone doesn't recognize it.

I use SSH to get into my iPhone wirelessly, which is fucking awesome. Even more so, with the terminal app, I can SSH into my desktop :D

Yay for this thread. I've had my iPhone for over a year now and there has been barely any discussion regarding them outside the release thread!

One thing I've noticed as my music collection grows is that using Cover Flow will freeze the phone until I leave it upright for a while. I have over 1700 songs (almost the full 16GB) and I try my hardest not to have it go landscape while the iPod app is open. It probably has to do with the fact that I pride myself on high quality album art, and it's just too defined for the phone to quickly load like that.

But yeah, I'm all for new apps and such. There are so many in App Store/Cydia that I just don't have time to find that diamond in the rough on my own. =P

Try screwing around with winterboard and the "User Wallpaper" and "User Lock Background" functions for blank wallpaper themes.

FieldRunners is a really fun game, probably the best purchase I've made so far.

Logmein Ignition is amazing, it allows you to access all of your computers via your iphone. I use 3 computers regularly so it's a must have but it's expensive ($30).

Vay is a great old-school RPG (made by Working Designs, who made Lunar) and should be downloaded by any RPG fan.

Pandora radio is nice if you use it frequently and/or have a docking station.

My suggestions for Apps:

WunderRadio - well worth it, tons of stations to choose from and can even stream some on 1st gen Edge connections which floored me.

GuitarToolkit - if you play guitar or are learning, this app is a MUST HAVE. $9.99 IIRC and it is basically a guitar bible. Includes a tuner, chord library, scale library, pentatonic library, metranome, fretboard (let's you screw around with notes), alternate tuning support, and 12-string support. Seriously has anything you'd ever want.

WootWatch - if you love Woot, get this. Helps to track wootoffs when you are away from a computer.

Y! Fan Pro - must have if you are a fantasy sports nut. Will allow you to manage all your Y! fantasy sports teams from your phone. Extremely useful and very well done.

Camera Plus - Helps you take better pictures for sure. Won't take the shot until you balance the camera out. Used a couple different apps like this and this was my favorite and easiest to use.

Sadly, no flash support. But if you have a jailbroken iphone, check out dTunes program from cydia. It has a huge list of supported sites to play converted streaming videos for iphone.
