only issue I had with my blackra1n is it didn't like stuff on my phone. I had to restore to perfectly clean, jailbreak, then restore from backup to get my stuff back.

I recommend trying that. Also, make sure you are running the latest iTunes and follow the instructions completely. Remember, when only need iTunes open long enough to put the phone into restore mode, close itunes after that. You shouldn't actually do anything in iTunes with blackrain.

try killing the AppleMobileDeviceService.Exe & iTunesHelper.exe processes before running blackra1n (with iTunes closed)

All I did was google iPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Custom_Restore, ran the restore through itunes, and bam Jailbroken 3.1.2. It's the PwnageTool Jailbreak, that keeps your phone compatible with Ultrasn0w...that is, if you haven't updated to OFW 3.1.2 yet.

I ended up doing this because blackra1n was also giving me issues, and hanging during install.

I had problems trying purplera1n when I first got my phone and was happy when the DevTeam solution went so well. This time around though, blackra1n was pretty effortless to get jailbroken. After that was a bit of a challenge though, I had some problems with jailbroken apps and using both Cydia / Rock and ended up restoring again. The next time it went smoothly though, and it has been since.

I tried Blackra1n again just now and when I press make it rain..nothing. It's saying waiting for phone and my phone is acting like there is nothing there. No reaction whatsoever.

yeah not a fan of blackra1n. Yeah its fast but it doesn't run right and winterboard and other things wouldn't run.

honestly, so far blackrain been smoother for me so far than redsnow. My biggest problem with Redsnow is that moving icons always seemed to crash it :\

Anyone overclocked a 3G to 533? I'm thinking about it, but my battery already drains pretty damn fast because I use it so much...does it kill the battery life quite a bit?

blackra1n RC2 was released yesterday, this one was a lot smoother install than the previous version. Still have to do the usual steps though: 1) Reset to factory defaults 2) run blackra1n 3) restore from backup

Is there a way to put music/movies on a jailbroken iphone without syncing? I "manually manage music and videos" but iTunes won't let me upload anything because it thinks the phone is out of sync.

I just want to upload more music/movies to it, I don't want to sync.

Anyone have issues with Shazam? I download it from the appstore, use it, try again in a few days and everytime I open it..it closes.

i've jailbroken my phone a dozen times since getting it, broken/had to restore it a bunch of times (my fault) and shazam is the one app that has never not-worked for me. i love that damn thing. i hope you get it fixed.

Has anybody got thier university email on thier phone? I've been playing around with it but it asks for a lot of info I don't know. Any help is appreciated. If it helps at all it's Arkansas state university and the email is @smail.astate.edu

My uni outsources their email to gmail so it wasn't too tricky once I figured out where to allow pop/imap stuff. The [email protected] thing was confusing but I eventually got it to work. So if your school uses a gmail interface you should be able to pull it off, if not then I dunno. I don't have much experience with mobile email.

Taera, oddly enough it looks like your school does exactly that, uses a gmail interface. it should be pretty easy to setup, although i have never dealt with a system like that (not-straight-gmail). i'd suggest like geno said to go into Settings / Fowarding and POP/IMAP, and enable what you need. i'm sure POP would work but I've always liked IMAP from gmail better. after that's enabled go to add a new mail account on the phone and the rest should be straight forward.

well since the iphone isn't a music player the same way a portable mp3 player is (it doesnt play mp3s, it plays quicktime audio, can't remember the file type at this moment but they're not mp3s), and since it doesnt just copy mp3s from your PC to the phone, it has to use itunes to convert everything

so i don't think there is another way to put music on the iphone/ipod, unless it was a program that copied quicktime audio to/from the device
