It was mentioned earlier in the thread SharePod and i have no fucking clue wtf reality is talking about, an iphone plays whatever format you transfer to it.... be it mp3, m4a, or whatever (possibly not ogg, but i dont have enough ogg files to care)

also i'm not jail broken at all.

well since the iphone isn't a music player the same way a portable mp3 player is (it doesnt play mp3s, it plays quicktime audio, can't remember the file type at this moment but they're not mp3s), and since it doesnt just copy mp3s from your PC to the phone, it has to use itunes to convert everything

so i don't think there is another way to put music on the iphone/ipod, unless it was a program that copied quicktime audio to/from the device

On a more lighter note, Doom Classic came up on the app store recently (bit high at $7, but meh), and it feels good man. Can't wait for John Carmack to get Quake 1/2 running on this puppy, given they seem to know how to make usable FPS controls.

so i can buy an iphone 3gs out of the box now and easily jailbreak it? and i was looking at the cydia store, how do you complete the transactions, paypal?

You can get an iphone 3gs and jailbreak it relatively easily. Then you add the sinful iphone repo to your cydia repos and download 3g unrestrictor for free.

You could use blackra1n (blackweather). Does it all for you. Phone doesnt even have to be activated but helps if it does because the hacktivation seems to be causing some problems with wifi & youtube.

If anyone has done this and cant connect to youtube or their wifi wont work you can read this thread on the Modmyi forums in relation to the youtube problem. resolved it for myself and is running fine.

After install blackra1n, loses youtube.

The wifi issue can be resolved by resetting all network data settings and then renetering the wifi information.

This isn't a hack or a virus at all, it's the result of stupid people. Some kid ran a port scanner and was able to access the phone of people who left the SSH on and left the password for root the default PW. Just change your SSH password or turn it off, and you're golden. There's nothing to worry about =/

That's what originally happened, and like I said its since gone public and there are several reports of people being brute forced.

Itll be patched in due time, just like the SMS exploit was. Though this one might take a little bit longer due to it only being applicable to technically illegal devices.

doesn't the iphone only play .m4a format? itunes just converts the audio you want to put on your ipod/iphone, be it wav, mp3, whatever, to .m4a?

at least that's how i always understood it, are you saying that itunes doesn't convert the audio to .m4a before it puts it on the iphone/ipod?

I was thinking that would describe how to connect it directly to your modem and set up a home network via your iphone and allow multiple computers to connect to it. Turns out it's a tethering article, instead.

Still, can be useful, although now iphone allows tethering (via bluetooth or USB) naturally, and can be done without jailbreaking or using an app.

Also try Assassin's Creed for iPhone. A VERY well done game for iPhone. Good graphics, extremely smooth. Not a resource hog (I don't even need to switch my phone to game mode for it) And the controls work very well. (Although down can get a bit touchy)
