Comprehensive iPhone Apps/Jailbreak Thread

Treat me like a preschooler. I just today got a 3G 8GB iPhone. I would love to be able to play some NES (or SNES?) RPGs on it, like Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior. What do I need to do to make this happen? Would anything like this require jailbreaking? Once jailbroken, what emulator would I install, where would I get it from, and where would I get the ROMs from (and how would I install them?) Do the save files work well?

If anyone knows this stuff like the back of their hand, a detailed post would be awesome.

Yes, you need to be jailbroken. QuickPwn is about the simplest way to do it.
It will install an appstore-like program called Cydia that lets you download 3rd party programs and tools.

To get emulators, Add the Cydia Repository "ZodTTD" from the Repository section and download whatever emu.

To find the GBA bios, GBA roms pack, NES roms pack, etc, manually add the xSellize repo "http://xsellize.com/cydia/" (In cydia, go to Manage, Sources, then add url)

Don't know where to find SNES roms, but you can always SSH them from your PC.

edit: Coolness, got the SNES emu up with FF4, 6, CT and Earthbound on there and NES with a bunch of ROMs.

edit#2: Hmm, the additional roms I downloaded for the NES Emu won't load into the NES Emu folder - I'm getting them from the same place I got working SNES roms. Maybe that NES Emu only works with the roms in that particular rom pack? Not sure what's up there.

Do your SNES ROMs run really slowly/choppy? I just got an iphone and the biggest disappointment so far is that SNES games are basically unplayable.

I'm pretty much playing only RPGs since the controls aren't the greatest, but playing FF4 and Earthbound worked just fine for me for the 20 minutes I played.

Anything that requires quick reactions from the directional pad is going to be difficult though.

Don't use the Battle.net authenticator. If you delete the app/reset your phone for some reason, you lose the unique authenticator. If you download a new one, it generates new codes. I put my WoW account on the battle.net authenticator, then immediately removed it when I realized that if I restore my phone, I'm not going to be able to login anymore.

You CANNOT add music to your iPhone without using iTunes.

You can put it on there as a file, but the iPhone doesn't recognize it.

I use SSH to get into my iPhone wirelessly, which is fucking awesome. Even more so, with the terminal app, I can SSH into my desktop :D

If your phone is jailbroken, you can use MewSeek to download/add songs to your ipod library without using itunes.

You may find what you're looking for in the cydia app, dTunes...



So after coachella music festival this past weekend, my phone decides to stop taking touch input to the left side of the screen, making it impossible to move apps to other pages, type Q or the number 1 in portrait keyboard mode......

Luckily i have warranty still, went to store today and they swapped with a new phone! I made sure i reformatted the phone to get rid of any evidence of jailbreaking
I'm promising myself i won't drop this phone this time to keep it all perty.

ok dumb question here. I have a new computer now, got all my music moved over, but itunes does not see my one custom playlist i have on my iphone. Is there a way to move the playlist from the phone to itunes so i don't have to re-create it?
