Anyone looking at the WWDC liveblog shit? ATT basically shafted iPhone users. No MMS at 3.0 launch because of ATT. Also, Apple added tethering support, but ATT won't fucking support it.
Haha was just going by what had been announced so far.
Now if you want me to play the speculation game with you:
Possible iPhone from Verizon soon.
Mindfuck.
Also, I saw mentioned someone dropping their phone and their warranty saved them... Get this... I don't have a warranty for my phone, I missed the due date to get it. Last month (7 or 8 months old now) I fucking spilled beer on the phone, touchscreen up, and yes, it went into the ear speaker. I fucking paniced, put that shit to my face and acted like it was just bit by a rattlesnake. Tried to suck every last bit out and I almost passed out cause of how hard I was doing it and for so long (think of blowing up a balloon). I could still hear some inside, so I'm like shit. Smelled like ass too, the beer was warm and from earlier in the day. Before I can check the phone, my gf calls me......... Can't hear a thing of course... Play with it for about an hour, only the sound from the ear piece failed and I got it to work again by doing the headphone trick, it basically just got stuck in headphone mode.
GG phone is fine now, but I'm so screwed if anything happens at this point. Gotta keep it going till may lol.
Since update 3.0 comes up tomorrow, I assume QuickPWN will be up for it soon after. I've only ever Jailbroken it once, and never had to restore it or whatever. What are the proper procedures to do this? I'm more concerned about having to re-add all my contacts and notes I had on the phone, and was wondering if there was a specific way to backup any of it. I'm hoping we can save everything ;(
As far as I know...
Contacts and stuff can be backed up via iTunes, just like a unlocked iphone.
However any apps/games that require the phone to be jailbroken cannot be backed up and you will have to re-install all that.
So any one Download the new os I heard it's screwing up alot of peoples service
Haven't tried to just yet. Still waiting on QuickPWN to be released ;(
Quick question, but are there any linux (mainly ubuntu) users out there that have an ipod touch jailbroken that can work with any of the media players? (mainly banshee or rhythmbox).
I'm a linux user and I own an ipod touch. But I can only load music from itunes. But from what I've read, if you jailbreak the phone you can use other media players to manage your music? Right? But I'm just unsure if it goes the same for linux as well. I never had any reason to jailbreak my ipod touch, but if it's possible to manage my music in linux, then I will.
TIA!
I think you can use gtkpod with the iPod touch, I've been able to manage my iPhone with it.
The common mehtod is to start ssh on your ipod, then mount via wifi and sshfs it somewhere (like in /media/ipod).
In the 2.x firmware series the database format is not readable by linux programs, you have to manually edit a configuration file on the ipod and restart it to downgrade the database to the previous version.
Ubuntu wiki has a nice howto to get it working.

You need to jailbreak it of course, but I'm not sure if you can sync it via USB.
Main Page - iFuse
This is what I found for the iPhone, with those libraries you can mount it via USB.
Downloaded and installed it within 1 hour of launch, but couldn't connect to network for 3 hours due to heavy traffic. Apple = CRAPple
3 whole hours, phone was stuck in emergency mode.
Anyway, sorted now, it's much faster, especially Safari. Cut Paste and Copy function takes a bit to get used to, landscape typing mode is a gimmick, MMS works fine, etc..
However, some (quite a lot actually) users on iphone forums are reporting extreme heat (even while phone is locked) after OS 3 is installed. Battery seems to go down to 20% after 2-4 hours according to reports.
Dunno about them, but mine works fine. Toyed with Air Mouse for hours, youtube WIFI and such for hours, by eyeballing, I think battery life is even increased.
Yeah downloaded and Installed late last night with no problems haven't noticed any speed differences although
i installed 3.0 last week and it's been running great, the battery actually seems to last longer than before. then again, i also haven't re-jailbroken, yet.
Installed 3.0 and I like it... Changes don't seem as significant for iPhone 3G (2nd gen) though as they will be for the 3G S. I mean the search function is just awesome, tethering support is also great once AT&T allows it. I still want the new/better GPS and I kinda wished the voice support was universal. Voice Support and the extra battery will be the reasons I get the 3G S.
Wasn't 3.0 supposed to allow app's to utilize the push feature though?
i thought i read (i've been half-keeping track of this stuff) that the support is in there, it's up to the developers to use it. there are tons of small additions i keep finding which are great, like shake-to-undo, and the new calendar support for caldav (like google's calendar), etc.
I believe that rez is right and the developers need to update their apps for 3.0. Like the AIM one, still doesn't use push network directly to the app even when you leave it on for 24h login periods. I can't rationalize getting 1500 or unlimited texting so I have the base 200 plan, and those aim texts are what push me over the top most times. I know they'll update the app soon for the new capabilities, but part of me wishes AT&T had a more expansive list of features to purchase in the text messaging department than 200, 1500 or unlimited. 500 would be more up my alley
Other than that 3.0 seems really fast. Spotlight search is neat if you've got your phone packed to the brim with things. Otherwise it's quicker to just find what you want directly. The voice memo built in is of course really cool and safari auto-fill in stuff was long overdue. Cut/Copy/Paste is of course amazing and the functionality is well-implemented. Can't really say anything super negative about it right now other than the fact that MMS was delayed til the end of summer. This should've been the #1 feature they worked on implementing right at the OS launch. Oh and using landscape while texting and in a few other places now doesn't really allow you to see incoming/received messages very well due to the screen size limitation. Perhaps if they allowed manual resizing within those apps it would be more aesthetically pleasing. That's more of a nit-pick though. Overall I'm happy with it I guess.
Fuck me... This is like 3G release all over again
Got my 3G S this morning. Pre-ordered it last week so it was a fairly simple process of walking in, getting it activated, and walking out.
This is my first Iphone, and so far I'm VERY happy with it.
Anyone having problems with 3.0 software update? I downloaded and installed it and now my iphone wont sync -.-.
Also, if I restore my iphone, will I lose my contacts?
I am still waiting a few weeks to get the 3Gs upgrade. I am still running the 1st Gen Iphone which is jailbroken with the old community tools installer (NES and Genesis Emulators are great and were 100% free). I didn't upgrade my phone in the past because I wanted to wait until my 2yr contract was up and do some shopping for different phones and I am glad I waited. The only issue is that one of my friends said that he got the 3Gs, updaded the software and then for some reason his wi-fi stopped working alltogether. He created a new profile for his wireless network but it wouldn't see any networks... I hope this is just a one time random occurrence
