There's local companies here that will replace screens on smart phone for much cheaper than the mfg. I'd imagine similar places exist where you live. It may be something you'd want to ask about.

The closest one I found was about an hour drive and its 120$. That's not too bad.

The issue is, I watched 2x 32gb jailbroken phones like mine, that were not damaged, go for 530 and 580 on ebay. Right now, there is a 16gb, non jailbroken phone, that has a cracked screen going for 400 with a day left.

If I can get over 400 for it broken on ebay, then it really isn't worth the fix. It really depends on when the next iphone comes out on verizon and what its features will be, as well as if there are any android devices on the market at that time worth switching to.

I basically see this as my oppertunity to opt out of att contract and get back to verizon. The sale of the phone on ebay will negate the att cancellation.

My notified icons stopped showing up in my status bar. Even the "vibrate" icon. Anyone have any idea why such a thing would happen?

I am so sick of Apple's crappy alarm clock programming.

Since DST started if you have an alarm set for every day it will go off one hour early, if it's a non recurring alarm it works fine.

I've never had a problem with the alarm... I have like 50 alarm times set in my phone and just switch one to on before bed.

Just don't set an alarm that occurs every day and you'll never notice the problem.

For a quick test you can create an alarm 1 hour and 1 minute from now and set it to occur each day, and it will go off in 1 minute.

Random Question: If you jailbreak your iphone (i have a 3gs), you can bypass your carrier's inane lock on tethring? My carrier only allows tethering if you have 1gig or higher data plans (the LEAST you could get is 150megs, which is what I have now [15$...]). I rarely need to tether, but having the option would be nice, but not at an additional cost of 15$ a month (or 180$+tax a year, yay canadia!)

There is the program MyWi from Cydia that is $20 and allows you to tether without the extra tethering plan from your carrier.

I played with the trial version when I had a crappy home ISP for when I had lost access, and it is pretty easy to setup and use.

I fucking love MyWi, you can probably find a cracked version of it on Cydia depending on what repos you have installed but I paid for mine

One of the best features is being able to tether my phone via USB or Bluetooth, to my PC, as a wireless NIC since I don't have a Wireless PCI card in my gaming PC. So basically it turns my iPhone4 into a USB WiFi adapter connecting to my wireless router/Fiber internet in my house :D

It of course does the obvious tethering to my PC via USB, or Bluetooth for my AT&T 3G connection as well. And I can use it as a WiFi hotspot (No USB or Bluetooth required ofc) on my laptop

Anyone here use the QuickOffice app? I'm curious about how well it works.

I manage a bar, so I do inventories just about everyday. Currently I just do my counts on paper then enter it onto excel. I'm about to upgrade to a smartphone (either iPhone4 or HTC Inspire), so I'm looking for an app to make the process easier. Any advice would be appreciated.

FYI, if you wasn't already aware, new cydia is out. It's a hell of a lot speedier. Also, just nabbed folder enhancer, which is a fucking amazing app. Folders are so much better and faster, as illustrated in the following pics. Been playing with my themeing. I get asked about the theme alot (or I got a few PMs before). I know it's a dbar theme meant for a non-retina display. I had to do a fucking ton of icon editing and some script tweaks to get it to work right on the retina. I'd love to help people set it up, but quite honestly, it's been sort of a work in progress for a long time, so I can't really recall all of the shit I had to download or change to get it to this point. I'm still on 4.0.1 because I don't want to upgrade and spend weeks figuring out how to do this again. That, in particular, pisses me off, because it's only after 4.1 you can squeeze retina icons into the status bar. That's they they're a bit pixelated.

Homescreen looks like this. No other pages or icons. It's just what you see here. Phone, text, and safari are obvious.


When you click "Apps", this is where folderenhancer kicks in. It pops up all my apps in a transparent folder.


Then, you can slide your finger across the screen to go through the folder like pages on a non-jailbroken homescreen. Annoying thing here is the 5 icon SB I have installed and it clutters up some words. Not worth removing however.

I got QuickOffice HD or whatever. Works fine for basic shit, I use it mostly for note taking in class though. I played with the spreadsheet part and powerpoint thingie, they seemed to work well on a basic leve, if you want to do more than basic stuff though, I dunno. I think it'd take just as long entering inventory/updating on an ipad, because in this case, it's faster to write, but it'll look hella cleaner on the ipad probably Also, please switch your bar's POS system, if you dont have one, to my companies

Why are you forced to upgrade? You can always tell itunes to point to a particular version of firmware by holding shift and then click on restore...

Tyche, seeing what you do with your phone makes me sad that I could do that but it would be all choppy and terrible since I'm on a 3G. It also makes me even sadder when rumors emerged today that there might not be an iPhone 4S/5 come summer. Oh how I hate you 3G...

Until you realize that after it finishes installing the firmware, you'll get an error in iTunes when it tries to do it's first sync. The only way to get around that error is to have backup SHSH files, and to use TinyUmbrella to bypass the error message to force the phone to continue booting up in iTunes

This. You can only restore to the firmwares that Apple is currently signing. Hence why the 3g users got mad fucking pissed when they started being forced into iOS4 because Apple stopped signing the iOS3 versions.

FUCK I dropped my phone and it has a crack in the screen now. No idea what to do about this, think I'm fucked. Piece of shit fell from like a foot and half at most, was sitting at a kitchen table.

edit: 1 foot fall, probably the lowest height its ever fallen from and its got a small crack.

Looks like apple can replace the screen for about 200$, yeah that's a lot. eBay has non-jailbroken phones with cracked screens going for 400ish. What should I do here? Cancel contract for 300ish sell on ebay for 400+ish and open a verizon contract with some android phone? Wait for the next iphone then do that? Do nothing until it's broken more? Spend the 200 at apple store?

I got a hairline crack in my phone today (left it in front of a space heater), brought it upto apple and they replaced it for free. No questions asked, they just said they would wave the fee (No sob story either)

Nex repair would cost me $200 though.
