Isn't there a method for enabling tethering without jailbreaking by uploading new carrier ipcc files? Either through an older itunes version or a script on a site you visit via Safari?
And once ATT officially supports tethering for a $70/month (versus the $30/month normal data plan), can use the option to enable tethering for free and avoid the fees.
Is the unlimited internet via T-zones still working for I-phone/other phones taht can browse the internet?
No, I mean to activate it without adding a service through AT&T. It's +$40/month if you call AT&T and say you want the tether service. It's free if you just tell the iphone to let you do it without telling AT&T.
There's no actual service AT&T needs to provide to let you tether, they just need time to figure out a way to charge people for it. You always could tether your connection on a jailbroken phone. All it is, is the iphone communicating over the 3G network (like it already does) and then relaying it to your laptop via USB (which is what jailbroken tether apps have been doing).
It's just now, there's support for tethering without having to jailbreak, and you can use bluetooth instead of USB.
If you were to make the iphone show you the tether option (its currently hidden when it detects your carrier is ATT, but is available to some other carriers), and enable it, ATT would never know unless they spot a huge spike in bandwidth or something because you're torrenting movies through your tether connection.
ATT has absolutely no reason to add $40 to an already unlimited data plan for the "service" of tethering because the tethering is a function of the device/software, not ATT's hardware/services/support. The only reason they will charge extra is because they charge $50-$70 for broadband wireless connections up to a 5GB limit as it is, and if this were effectively a $30 unlimited data broadband wireless connection, nobody'd have any reason to use a broadband card anymore.
Either that, or the $30 unlimited data plan was priced at $30 because they assumed "unlimited" bandwidth wouldn't really be all that much if people were limited to using it via their phone, and assume "unlimited" via a laptop would take on a new meaning.
Where is my Beejive 3.0 Apple ><
no jailbreak for iphone 3G S yet? D:
Sorry for the delay.
Updated the OP with 3.0 jailbreak info and a tutorial on how to use redsn0w.
3GS Jailbreak and Unlock confirmed to be released soon, I'll update when they arrive.
And in an update to my last post, the Beejive update with the bug fixes came out today. Haven't had a chance to trial run it yet.
And to the above post, that jailbreak will be busted by 3.1 due out any day. And it will brick it because of baseband change. So if you break, DO NOT UPDATE WITHOUT DOING A FULL RESTORE FIRST.
Just wanted to show off this beautiful combination of Winterboard themes I found.
wow, which ones?![]()
jailbroke it and didn't like the fact that it crashed frequently and reboots on safe mode. so gay now i have to go back to factory settings.
Using a couple different Delnoch themes: AllTechRelated
I've modified a little more:
Lockscreen and Main screens
Not happy with the buttons on the top, obviously a little smashed together on the text. He provides the .psd on all his themes though so just a little work needed.
very cool![]()
