iphone 4 can only be unlocked if you are on the old 4.0.1 (or have been using custom ISPWs since then to preserve that baseband) Anything later and you are fucked, no unlock available right now.

Boyiee...unless you need Airplay, really no reason to upgrade. In fact all your winterboard stuff (if you have anything custom) will break to pieces if you upgrade. Apple in the 4.2 and 4.3 updates changed a ton of the springboard names, breaking lots of themes.

If you do decide too, then ya, redsn0w best for 4.3 versions if you don't need to worry about preserving baseband. If you need unlock, use snowbreeze.

So i jailbroke my phone and it looks identical.. only now I have Cydia. How do I get the custom skins and stuff like others use? Thats mainly what I wanted. Jailbroke to 4.3 w/ Redsn0w.. And how do you tether? Or did I need to pick that "boot in tethered mode" to enable it?

    Excuse all the noob questions

edit: is winterboard a good one to go w/?

If you want to tether, you have a couple of options. Go to cydia and buy MyWi (or pirate MyWi).

As far as theming...there are themes you can pick up free in cydia, or you can buy in cydia. They all pretty much require you to download winterboard from cydia. Theming manually has a significant learning curve, but it's worth it to learn. I've had the same theme forever, just change up the wallpapers.

A few programs that I consider "must haves" on freshly jailbroken devices

SBsettings (quick access to toggle settings)
    Winterboard (required for most themes)
Springtomize - A fantastic customization program
BiteSMS - best texting client there is imo
iFile - Access phone's root file directory

Oh wow, springtomize is sick, totally picking it up to play around with. From the looks of it, it rolls up like 5-6 other apps into on place; with added functionality?

I ended up tweaking my theme a while ago, here's what I'm running with now:

Definitely second iFile/BiteSMS. I'd also pick up SafariDownloadManager and the SafariDownload Plug in.

It's just a widget. Tylershomescreenwidget. I made the icons myself. You can find them on my BGbucket stream. If you go back a few pages, I think pooky and I were going back and forth on the installation process since 4.3.x changed it up.

Best feature of springtomize...it can kill the "preview icons" in a folder, essentially eliminating the need for iblank. I'm easily impressed lol

Wow. That's enough for me to buy it right there lol. Does it have anything that makes swapping out icons less of a pain?

No, for swapping icons, I use ifunbox. It's for the computer, and instead of thumbing through the directory of the iphone to find specific folder for certain programs or utilities, it compiles them all and let's you click them and take you directly to that program's folder. Can swap out icons in a snap.

You find a widget you like, download it, stick it in the var > stash > themes.xxx folder

After that, go to winterboard and activate it, then respring the phone, and voila. Now, some widgets and themes require you to edit them to work (weather widgets for instance, you have to edit the zip code to your area).

if it's an iphone 4, the displayed icon is typically name "[email protected]". Replace that with another retina icon (114x114).

What you're looking at is the iphone file system. By replacing it, you replace it on the iphone.

edit: nvm, it worked I just had to reboot my phone. So where is this widget you both use :D?

The icons I pulled from your Bucket Tyche are black (background - obviously), how did you customize them to blend into your current background?

And where can I get your background? I dont see this Tylershomescreenwidget thing

I should really change my theme, I'm sick of it. You guys have it set up pretty nice... It looks like they've updated the app icons to HD. I've never used iblank or anything special, not sure if I want to get into it.

If they're black, then you pulled them from the bgbucket preview. You have to click on the actual picture to get the transparent png

    eg: http://bucket.bluegartr.com/73ce0fe0...eedfef0712.png

my background is also on my bgbucket stream.

You may also have to remove the icon reflections and icon shadows. Springtomize does both of those things.
