Do 3G usually have pretty long load times on opening "Messages"? I jailbroke mine the day after getting it and at that point didn't have texting yet so I wouldn't really know. I am just curious if it is normally a 5ish sec load or if it's because of being Jailbroken.

I thought that was because I jailbroke mine too cause I had that problem, but then after restoring it and playing with it for a while it got slow again. It might have to do with the amount of data stored (ie having 3000000 text conversations that you arent deleting or the recent call list piling up). So I re-jailbroke it and it seems the same to me either way.

Spent most of tonight nerding it up over my newly acquired iPhone. Installed a bunch of apps and was intrigued with the 10 dollar 'intelliscreen' app. I didn't want to spend 10 dollars though, and it had serious memory hogging issues apparently and poor support, so I patched together this guy. Took awhile but now my lockscreen is exactly how I wanted it. For awhile I just had LockCalendar but that sucked compared to what I have now. I did have to drop 99 cents to get this Popup Blocker app to stop those obnoxious popups for sms and such which lock up your screen. If anyone wants I can upload the theme package with all the stuff I put into it, you will need to know how to open an ftp connection to drop them into your phone though and winterboard to load it with.
by opening an ftp connection to drop them in, do you mean via openssh/winscp? I would love something like this.

    doesn't work on 3gs though.
Also currently for people running on OSX...or you can get someone on OSX to create the jailbroken ispw for you. But I would expect redsn0w to be out within a week now..

I actually came to this thread to ask a question about slowness. I've actually never not had a jailbroken iPhone, but lately I've found that my phone is rather sluggish. I've only ever JB'd 3 times: 1.1.3 -> 2.2.1 -> 3.0.1.

1.1.3 was all fine and dandy, but between that fw and 2.2.1, there were so many upgrades that I forced myself to do it. 2.2.1 lasted a long time, but towards the end of that "life", my phone crashed all the time, half the apps didn't work, among a bunch of other things. I just restored to 3.0.1 recently, and it's fine, but I can see some of the slowness from 2.2.1. I'm 500% positive I did it correctly. For the record, I have ~1700 songs, and a fuckton of text messages that I rarely delete. RIGHT after I JB'd it was nice and smooth, but after installing some Cydia apps like Winterboard/SBSettings/ROGERS provider icon/maybe one/two more things, loading apps takes 5-20 seconds. Using SBSettings to check processes, I find that Mail always sneaks in there, yet I NEVER use it. "Available Memory" always fluctuates between 3mb-30mb.

    Any ideas? =(

    OK, wow....

for anyone that uses Gmail, you need to resetup your Google sync. They finally setup the push service for Google sync. It doesn't produce a pop up like normal push services, but instead instantly dumps into your mail folder. But it is instant, and not on the normal 15 minute timer your phone checks for new mail.

In fact the push is so fast, it's pushed to my phone before the gmail site updates with the new mail.

I have push notifactions turned off, yet gmail still somehow gives me new mail every now and then even though I don't want it. Battery life > junk from acm and mlb.com

    Unless:

One big caveat remains, however. GoogleSync is powered by Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, and most devices — including the iPhone — can only handle one (1) EAS account at a time. So, if you’re already using Exchange ActiveSync for your corporate email, that slot is taken and GoogleSync is useless to you.
And that would be me. I have my iPhone set up already to push my work email to me. Oh well.

Apparently I suck, I've tried searching the app store for Freememory, free memory, free memory app, and memory looking for a .99 cent one and I can't find it.

Also, how can you organize the actual app icons? Or even if you can't organize them personally, is there a way to autosort them? For some reason my second page only has 3 app icons.

    Thanks

Hold down one of the app icons, shit will start wiggling. You can now move them wherever you want. When you are done, press home.

For those of you who havent unjailbroke your phone yet and want to get the MMS update, try this out:

How to Get MMS on the 3.1, 3.01, 3.0 Firmwares! NO JAILBREAK! EASY! | iPhoneXpert.com | iPhone News, Tutorials, and more!

Worked for me and didnt loose my jailbreak.

Also, after you do this, go to Settings>General>Network>Cellular Data Network> and type wap.cingular in the MMS APN if it isnt already there. Otherwise it'll hang on the send and eventually pop up ! saying it failed to send. They take a few seconds to send anyway, so be patient.

Many jailbroken users will not update beyond 3.0 or 3.01 as it will ruin their jailbreak. The only way to get the MMS normally afaik is to update to 3.1. I am in that category, and although I found the solution on my own earlier, I think its a useful bit of info for others.

Type of iPhone and which firmware?

Apple has stopped signing everything below 3.1 for 3GS and I believe everything below 3.0.1 on 3g.
