    Monitor Reviews

Can anyone recommend a good review site on LCD monitors besides CNet? I'm looking at getting myself a 24" LCD since I'm going to be building a new computer soon, and want to get the most for about 3-400 dollars. Really the only requirment is a 1920x1080 resolution.

    Newegg.com - ASUS VH242H Black 23.6" 5ms HDMI Full 1080P Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 1000:1 (ASCR 20000:1) Built in Speakers - LCD Monitors

This is what I have, and it is beautiful. Does everything I need and playing Rainbow Six las vegas 2 on it is orgasmic.

I have a 24.6in Hannspree, 99.9% sure they are same brand as Hanns-G and I love it. 240$ at best buy right now, if I had to get a different one I'd get the 23in Acer for 200$ off newegg.

www.tomshardware.com is a fantastic review site.

BTW Newegg's customer reviews aren't great, mainly because you can't verify if someone's posting a fake review.

Also because a ton of people that review crap on newegg have no idea what they're talking about. Giving a 450$ PC pre-built a one egg review because it can't run Crysis @ full settings, or they don't know how to use drivers ect.

XBit Labs does much better reviews than Tom's, just puttin' that out there.

But either way, Hard Forum is the right answer. Their Displays forum is pretty much the best anywhere.

The problem with review sites is that most cover just a couple monitors here and there. There is no one place to go for great reviews, you sort of have to piece together depending on what you're looking at.

I love my Dell w2408WFP, and Acer X243w. Both are great monitors in different ways.

The ToC 240HD or 260HD are great monitors from Samsung.

It kinda depends on what you want to do with it.

Are you just connecting this to a computer via DVI/vga to play FFXI?

Are you going to connect more than one computer to it, or maybe a console system? What about having a tuner built in, is that important to you?

I've also got a monitor question.

Currently I'm running a 22" Dell (E228WFP I think), I want to get a 2nd monitor to run dual monitors. I used to run dual on this system with this 19inch samsung lcd I had, and then i picked up this dell and used both - but there was a big problem that I couldn't stand, no matter how hard I tried the color difference in the 2 was huge. Like... Say I take a wallpaper, and stretch it through both, it does not look the same on both. So getting a new monitor with my 22inch Dell, I was thinking my best bet so the colors are closest, is to get another Dell... but would that require me to get the exact same model? They have the new 22inch 1900x1080 full HD with HDMI ports now for around 300$ and that seems like a great buy... but side-by-side will there be a huge difference in color so that stretching a wallpaper would irritate me again?

I'd step up to a 24inch if the price difference wasn't so large, they do have a 23/24" for around 300 but that seems really cheap. And I don't see myself spending 500$ on the other 24inch dell. I would consider other brands but Samsungs and Dell's are pretty similar, and the difference between the 19inch I had and this 22inch was too much for me, so I was mainly thinking with sticking with Dell.

You guys with multi monitors, do you care about different brands? If the colors aren't exactly the same bewtween both screens? Is there a way to make it more similar? My vid card is a 4870X2.

Looking through Newegg to see if I would get anything outside of Dell and just deal with color differences like a normal person, This seems like an AMAZING monitor:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824236047

as well as the 27inch posted earlier: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824254026

The 25" one is $319 after rebate, hope you guys looking through this thread see that. Now the thing is, well, with this 25 or 27inch, I could plug my ps3 into it as well... Currently I have a 46inch 720p/1080i DLP in my room behind me, Wii/360/ps3 plugged into it... With either of these monitors it would be tempting to plug the ps3 into the monitor instead, watch some movies and such, the only problem is I don't really play the ps3 at all lol - it would require me to buy games!

Thanks for posting that 27inch Elites, the problem is the sheer size of it, on my desk with 2x 22's i'd have to angle them to me somewhat, IDK how I'd work a 25 or 27inch. It looks like at least half the reviews on the 27inch say that they come with dead pixels VERY often even though it's one of the highest rated LCD's on newegg.

I am lucky I guess because my 25in didn't come with any dead pixels, and as I said earlier you can go to best buy and get it for 240$+tax and don't have to wait on shipping, RMAs ect if it does have dead pixels, if it does just return it and get a new one. It's one of those times where newegg gets beat by retail I guess.

I have narrowed it down to a few monitors but not sure which...

I'm going to play my PS3 through this monitor as well as dual monitor setup for my PC. So at least 1HDMI port is a must... I'm debating between a Dell24inch, Asus 25.5inch, and there is the cheap one mentioned at best buy the Hannspree 25inch.

    Dell $299: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...9&sku=320-7345
    Asus $319 after rebate: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824236049
    Hannspree $240: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1218061080695

I have a 22inch dell now and like it, but I want to upgrade to an HD monitor, but here is the thing. The asus runs 16:10 1920x1200, the other 2 run 16:9 1920x1080 - with the PS3 the asus is going to stretch the image 120px (it also has 1:1 support so it doesnt stretch).

Which is the best buy out of these 3? $240 seems like, too cheap, like it's a bad buy. The Asus is the largest, someone mentioned the bigger the better? What is going to be best in terms of picture quality for Crysis/Fallout at full settings, ps3 and movies?

Edit: Looks like ASUS has a nice 24inch with the 16:9 ratio as well for a good price $259 so thats 4 monitors to choose from http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824236049

I've been playing RE5 on PS3 on mine nonstop and I think it looks amazing better than my 52in 1080i for sure, could always try the Hannspree and return it if you don't like it, best buy has never given me a problem with returning anything and you get 30days.

Only thing with mine is I have it sitting 6-7inches up on a platform on the desk and sometimes I find the viewing angle to be an issue at the very top of the screen, but that could be a generic issue with not sitting far enough away.

You need something like this: Newegg.com - PANTONE Huey Color Calibrator - Digital Media Editing

Yeah I might try to ignore color differences but if I can't I'd probably pick that up.

Looks like I'm going with either the 24inch Asus or the 25.5inch Asus. The 27 inch Hanns-G mentioned earlier doesn't have enough inputs for me, so it's really a matter of $260 for 16:9, or $319 for 1.5" and 16:10.....

Most computer stuff is in 16:10, but ps3 will be 16:9, luckily with the 1:1 scanning I can choose to stretch the image or not, but supposedly with 16:9 you have a larger view space - idk. 16:9 seems to be getting more popular, but the high end monitors come in nothing but 16:10 so I'm stuck.

Screen ratios mean nothing without the resolution of the screen.

A 16:9 screen is not necessarily better than a 4:3 panel.

For example, for 16:9, 720p is 1366x768 and 1080p is 1920x1080. There are also panels in sizes of 1600x900 and 2048x1152.

    For 4:3 you have your standard computer resolutions; 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024 (1280x960*), 1440x1080, 1600x1200, 2048*1536, etc.

    For 16:10 you have most commonly; 1680x1050, 1920x1200, 2560x1600.

Do the math. More pixels = more monitor. FORGET ABOUT SCREENSIZE IN INCHES. It's just larger pixels. It doesn't mean you get more image displayed.

A 30" monitor can display more than four times the infomation of a 32" 720p TV.

Just get a 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 (if it has a 1:1 mapper) screen. Forget about the screensize, it's just for them to make more money off of nubs.
