16:9 can die in a fire, keep that for TVs, PC monitors are supposed to be 16:10. Sucks that the hardware companies seem intent on selling us smaller screens.

Yes but I'm also going to use the PS3 on it, although not often, and the monitor I'm looking at has 1:1 to fix it.

I'm gonna go with 16:10... My current monitor is 16:10 and it'll just work out better as long as it has the 1:1

So far my main choice is the Asus 25.5" 1920x1200 1:1 not sure if I'll find a better monitor than that for the price (319 after rebate) plus it's one of the highest rated ones I've found, along with a lot of praising at [H]ardfroum

Been casually-looking for a new computer monitor for a while... was gonna get the 27.5 inch posted in this thread because it seems like a great deal, but I ended up getting the 25.5inch that Boyiee posted (in quote above). It arrived yesterday and its a beautiful screen & bigger then i figured. Definitely have to spend some time messing around w/ the colors to get it the way I wanted... it has diff modes, but I didn't find any mode being "just right" so you have to tweek them to your liking. The menu navigation is a bit retarded for how nice the monitor is, but it's easy enough to overlook. Granted one of the problems from newegg & monitors is that you can only return it for a new one if it has 6 or more dead pixels, and a few of the reviews have mentioned at least one dead pixel being "relatively frequent" (didn't get the impression it's frequent, but getting one or two isn't "rare") w/ the monitor. I don't have any dead pixels on mine and it's stunning.

Granted it's just for comp games and browsing, but thanks for pointing out the monitor because it was definitely worth the investment for me.

I just picked this up and i couldnt be happier. It doesnt say HDMI, but it does indeed have a HDMI input. The only downfall with this was it came with a VGA cable only.

Cool! and thanks! The 27inch doesn't have enough ports, which is it's downfall. And for the price this monitor can't be beat, 319 after mib is win for something so big.

As soon as my taxes come in, or my disability check shows up, I'm buying this that same day.

27.5 inch seemed a little "too much" of a bargain deal for me. I actually ordered that one first but quickly canceled when I saw your post on the 25.5 inch and looked it up. If i was buying the 27.5 inch from a store then I wouldn't care cause could return it if something was wrong, but newegg's return policy (6 dead pixel minimum) didn't make me want to chance it. Granted if it had one dead pixel I'd still prolly try to find a way to replace it lol

I've also been thinking of getting a new monitor soon to be used for console gaming, general PC use, and as an HDTV. What Boyiee posted is pretty much what I'm looking for, especially with the myriad of inputs that it has. However, I'm a bit apprehensive about viewing 16x9 content on it via my cable box and xbox when the native aspect ratio/resolution of the monitor is 16x10/1920x1200. Am I correct in assuming that the image would be stretched a bit to fit the entire screen? If so, that would likely drive me nuts. Should I instead look for a monitor with a 16x9 aspect ratio?

Is there a cheaper model of the ASUS VW266H without the embedded speakers? I don't need the extra weight/breakable component.

There is no version without the speakers, as lame as that is. You'd have to go to samsung, which costs more for no speakers lol.

Mabu, with some monitors, yes, images will be stretched. Unless, like the asus 25.5, they have the 1:1 ratio setting. You have the option to stretch the image from 16:9 to 16:10, or have slim black borders on the top and bottom so that the image stays in its normal 16:9. Not all monitors do that, but if you look through the reviews that Asus monitor does in fact give you the option of both. Also, going from 16x9 to 16x10 is not that big of a difference, it wont drive you nuts most likely. Its a 120px difference vertically. Here is a pic to show you the difference:

As a rule of thumb: 16:9 is more for TV's, console games, movies I suppose as well. 16:10 is for PC shit. What will you be using it more for? PC shit or TV shit? lol. Personally, after research, it seems to be unjust to use a monitor for my PC and not be in 16:10 - go to your favorite wallpaper/desktop backround site; most things come in 1920x1200 and not 1900x1080. PC wants to be 16:10, give it what it wants!

Thanks alot for clearing that up. TBH, I really wouldn't be able to stand seeing what should be a circle displayed as an oval due to the stretching. Guess I'm just anal when it comes to that. I wasn't aware of that 1:1 ratio setting though - that solves that entire problem for me. Oddly, I don't mind seeing thin black borders on the top/bottom (60 pixels each, I presume?), but I don't think I could put up with the stretching.

well it's 60 lines of pixels, but yes. It's VERY minor. Most monitors won't say they have the setting in the specs, but in the reviews for that asus it stated that it does.

It's not the most competitively priced, but the gateway FHD2400 has worked rather well for me. Pretty much same options as most I think, screen looks good. It is a very bright display. I like the pip feature, works pretty well if you don't have room for 2 screens for 2 computers. And if you know what you need to do on the pip machine the view is big enough to work with. I originally had a 24" LG I believe, it died after only a couple months. Bestbuy took it back under warranty but didn't have 24's anymore so I got the 26". That one failed to display anything over 1900 horizontally correct, so I got the gateway. Looking back though, wish I had just gone with a 30ish tv...

If it means Samsung starts using at least an 8-bit IPS display, I'm all for it.
