When the school askes for your highschool transcript say that you were homeschooled.

There is no way they can prove you're not, and they can't discriminate against you based on that fact. Your GED score is ALL you are required to have. If your state is one that has one of the VERY new "homeschool" Diploma programs...you're ok...just lie again and say you were schooled well living in a different state.

There is no paperwork you can provide to "prove" this, since none is ever issued(except your GED), and there is nothing they can look at to prove it themselves.

Granted, if you already told them otherwise you're fucked. But most colleges deal with this all the time, and if you just call them and tell them, they won't make much a fuss over it.

Of course where you really screwed up is only 15 credit hours of community college...had you done 24 they wouldn't even ask to see your GED.

I have well over 24 credits, but they still require my high school records

Dear Kyle,

An official high school transcript is required to complete your application, so please contact the organization that oversaw your home school curriculum. We’d also need an official GED transcript (available through your state’s board of education) and a copy of the GED diploma.

Home-schooled applicants and those with a GED are required to have at least 15 college-level semester credits completed. It sounds like you would qualify for an SAT waiver based on your GPA and English Comp classes. Please send us your official transcript once this term is over so we can check for sure.

Seriously, I've been in this situation, all you have to do is lie. If you can't get your transcript from the school then you don't have anything to lose do you? I applied to and got accepted into several schools who "required" transcripts by just saying I was home-schooled by my parents and all I had was my GED. Like I said, they can't prove otherwise, ball is in your court.

Of course the reality is I was an F average student all the way through school and simply didn't want to show them my transcripts, and got a full scholarship because of my high GED score! Also if you have over 24 college credits and they want a transcript...something seems fishy, cause I've attended several schools and never once was I asked for a transcript after I had completed my first year of college.

You could spin this one of two ways. You take them to court, citing the evidence that you already have, and get the court to force them to give up your transcripts based on your argument. You may lose the case, however, because you waited so long to do this. You may actually win, though, because the contract should be null and void and in all honesty they're just trying to earn a quick $2k.

The other option is to just pay the money. If you take them to court and lose, you're out even more than $2k. If you take them to court and win, you get your transcripts. Realistically, it would be much easier to just e-mail the college you are applying to and tell them what's going on. Tell them that the school refuses to release the transcripts and that you need some time to take care of it. That way it doesn't look like you are avoiding them or being irresponsible.

If yes, you could attempt to get your transcript from them instead.

I wouldn't be out more than what is owed because they are not getting it. If they refuse to send me my transcripts, they are not getting their money. I don't have two thousand dollars to send to a school that I never completed. I still have not heard anything from them and can't call until tomorrow. We'll see how it goes.

I mean, what if you had finished the last 3 credits? Would you have paid the 2.2k then? Compare to college. I can't go to college and fail to complete my degree, and just never pay my tuition then tell them to fuck off 5 years later when they ask me where my tuition is.

I have no idea. If its what I owe them for the program I could understand it but I don't think that is what is being implied. I don't think its the same with college because of how this system works. You pay per book. For example, if you're taking 4 home schooled credits you're due the money of 4 credits that go towards the total cost of the program. IE: If the total cost to complete the program is 4k and you take 4 credits at $100 each you knock $400 off the total owed, right? Simple. Except they want you to pay for books you never got and the remainder of the program. Or at least thats how I understood it..

alright, so I looked it up. Private high schools report all transcripts to the state's board of education.

Go to that website/call, see if your state's board of education has the transcript.
