    Missing abilities/ spells from older final fantasies

    This is purely a fun thread. I am not intending to say 'these things need to be added.' That being said, I was thinking about older final fantasy abilities and spells that I think should make the transition to ffxi.

    1. Dragoons used to be able to wear a lance and a shield. Heck, when you joust you always carry both. In thinking about how to implement this, I decided the best idea was for the smaller 'spear class' polearms could be classified as dual-wield capable. Then, just impose a penalty to attack when only using one hand on your lance. Probably difficult to code, but I think dragoons would look pretty cool with a shield as well.

    2. Missing Blue Mage Spells.
    Roulette. Randomly kills or dooms one party member or target enemy. With a higher probability of killing a party member, it wouldn't be great, but that little chance of instant killing a boss would be interesting.
    Frog song. Enemies can do it, why not us?
    Level 3 flare, 4 quarter, 5 death/doom. I think the idea of level based targeting would be kind of interesting if situational.
    Mighty Guard. Protect and Shell for the party in one cast. Perhaps make it scale so that it never beats a white mage's version.
    Missile/Matra Magic. Percentile based damage.
    White Wind. Curaga type spell. I would trade healing breeze for this, if only for nostalgia.

    3. Blitz attacks.
    I know monks are already pretty powerful, so perhaps this could go to another class, but I would like to have the blitz input for combos for a class. Maybe as a 2 hour, maybe as general skill. I liked inputing street fighter like commands to do special attacks.

    4. Single serving summons. You expend a large amount of mp, they appear, do massive damage, then leave. I mean, what summoner hasn't wanted to summon Bahamut, Alexander, or Odin since they were introduced.

    Once again, these are pipe dreams, so feel free to contribute your own vanadiel dreams.

    what was that one spell in FF9 Quina learned that dealt 9999 dmg when s/he was at 1HP?

    Limit Glove. That one could be done like the Magic Mortar ability where it is inversely proportional to the caster's current HP.

    I always thought Scan would be cool to have in FFXI. Naturally, make anything Impossible To Gauge immune to it, but it'd be interesting to see the output on normal XP mobs.

    I'm mainly going by FF Tactics / Tactics Advance here:

    WAR
    Rush - knocks back target

    MNK
    Air Render - ranged physical attack

    WHM
    Esuna - They are finally adding it!
    Full-Life - Raise without weakness. This will never be added outside of that campaign NPC who removes weakness.

    PLD
    Parley - Convinces a mob to go away without a fight

    NIN
    Unspell - Same as Dispel
    Fire/Wind/Earth/Water/Metal Veil - deals low damage and inflicts a status ailment (Silence, Bind, etc)

    DRG
    Lancet - Normal-damage attack that drains HP. (Same as DRK's 2hr but only for a single swing).

    SMN
    Madeen - Holy Damage
    Kirin - Grants regen to party members in area of effect
    Carby - Grants reflect to party members in area of effect

    Of all the abilities listed, I think Lancet would be a cool and perfectly reasonable addition to FFXI. It lets DRGs take care of themselves a little bit even when they are using a melee sub.

    The enemies that do it are frogs, we're not, lol.

    Level 5 petrify is already in it...wouldn't take much to expand upon this.

    Ferreous Coffin, a Freelance NPC in Campaign, can use an ability called Reviviscence, which removes weakness.

    Actually, I think it'd be a great JA for BST (Though yes, it has traditionally been a WHM thing).

    Dont forget of course the classic spells:

    Ultima (massive AoE nonelemental damage)

    Merton (massive AoE fire based damage, both to enemies and allies alike... worked great with fire shields to absorb the damage as HP, not such a good idea if no one was immune to fire....)

    Frog/Imp (Turned enemy into a frog or imp, massive attack down, defense down too I think, unable to use weapon or just about anything if casted on ally, though there were a few equips that enhanced you while in imp form. Frog charm/chorus is similar though)
    Apocalypse (from FF8 last boss, you could draw this spell from her and use it against her, massive non elemental damage to all enemies)

    Firaja/Blizzaja/Thundaja/Waterja/Aeroja/Stoneja (varied by final fantasy, but essentially a fourth tier damage spell, AoE of that element. Sometimes inflicted a status ailment alligned with that element as well, such as blizzaja causing paralyze, was usually nasty)

    Shadow? ( It was fenrir's ability in FFVI, that caused everyone to gain shadow images similar to utsusemi, but it wasn't 100% effective. It was basically blink but with unlimited shadows with a somewhat short duration, like 1 minute.

    Nova (Ultima/Omega/Nemisis from FFX had this powerful nonelemental AoE spell/ability, kimahri could learn it as one of his blue magic spells)

    Zombie/Reverse (good old zombie status, reversing healing and damage, to where being poisoned or biod = being regened, and a well placed zombie by an enemy right after you issued a curaga order could cuase you to kill yourself.

    Confuse (Closest thing we got is charm)

    Berserk ( The actual spell that increased your attack speed/attack but made it so you couldn't do anything but autoattack)

    I know theres a lot more out there too i cant remember off hand :s

    Spells for RDM (they need some love after this update notes)

    cause these status effects that cancel each other

    Hyper: Deal +5% dmg, Take +10% dmg, TP gain +10%

    Sadness: Deal -10% dmg, Take -5% dmg, TP gain -10%

    Take that shits situational
