    Vid Card Shoppin

Looks like my old one bit the dust, it was an 8600GT. Anyway I'm looking for a new card that fits the following specs:

    $75-150
Does not require an extra power connector
    Low-ish power consumption.
Two DVI ports, or one DVI one VGA

I'm thinking it'll probably be a 9600 or 9800 but I haven't found the exact card I'd like to buy yet. Currently browsing newegg + elsewhere.

Do you have an open Molex connector, by chance?

No open molex sockets. There are 2 extra SATA power + one 4 pin something or other male ends that aren't connected to anything which are intended for the (not present) 2nd HDD/Optical drive. I guess the 4 pin is for the floppy bay.

Well, there's plenty of adapters for SATA > Molex, and many video cards come with a molex to 6 pin video card power connecter.
I don't know if between all of the adapters and gender changers, that there is any loss in power, but if anyone can confirm it's not a problem you can get an Open Box HD4850 for about $90 here:

    Newegg.com - Open Box: POWERCOLOR AX4850 512MD3-DH Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card

Ugh sorry I missed a few things in my OP, I prefer nvidia chipsets and I have no use for HDMI ports. Thanks for all the help so far though.

Its not going to cause too much power draw to have one single power connector on the mobo connected to the card and the hard disk or dvd drive right? I guess it definitely won't be an issue with the DVD drive since that gets used next to never.

Oh, well I can't help you there.
Haven't bought an NVIDIA chipset in my life D: Good luck

The 4670 is the ATI counterpart of the 9500GT if I remember correctly.
I haven't looked at any comparisons, but "I'm feeling lucky" on google says the 4670 is quite a bit more impressive.

Yeah I looked up a bunch of benches and eventually went with the 4670. It may be a counterpart to a 9500 price-wise but it outperforms pretty solidly. Should be pleased with this till I build a new PC. Thanks.
