    High End Video Cards

Was looking into upgrading my video card on my PC.

My questions is, do any of the highend video cards make a difference in ffxi?

SLI mode or Crossfire mode make a difference? was looking at the latest highend Nvidia and ATI cards, they are priced around 350-550 US $.

    Thanks.

anything above geforce 8800 can handle ffxi maxed out..

SLI/XFIRE is overkill for XI, but not for newer games like Gears of War, Crysis, Last remnant.

if you plan on playing the newer games at maxed settings then yeah get SLI if not a 8800gtx is more than enough for xi

I'd avoid nVidia. Go with ATI if you're upgrading for FFXI.

I agree with this. Many people say that FFXI runs the same no matter how good your system is past a certain point. I can agree with that having played it on two different systems. One a P4 + 512mb ram + Geforce ti4200 which later got upgraded to a 6600gt, and now my current system which is a core2/8600gt. One would expect a large difference in system power to be reflected with a large increase in game performance, this is not the case with FFXI. Dynamis is still dynamis

That said, a good card is a good card and you may want to play other games. Newegg has $100 off one of the higher end nvidia cards, you may want to check that out. SLI is not cost efficient, you're looking at roughly a 20% performance increase for double the price.

Thats a Radeon 4870 by itself vs. two of them in crossfire. The higher numbers are of course the crossfire cards, its not labeled too well.

As you can see some of the games really benefit from having two in crossfire, the first mass effect test especially, but the vast majority of other games, especially older titles like half life see almost no increase at all. This will invariably be the case for FFXI.

If you want a highend card go with ATI. As someone said Nvidia still has problems with FF.

Still confused as to why anyone would think/want anything bigger than a 8800gt, let alone, want to SLI/Xfire for FFXI lol.

Bigger the numbers, better the card obviously.

    ^?

I was saying why would anyone want anything bigger than an 8800 for ffxi when it wont make a difference, let alone thinking they should get sli/crossfire.

Get 2 cards and 3 monitors so you can play tf2 and browse porn during downtime.

Your best bet right now is a Radeon HD48X0 X2

I was a huge Nvidia fan, but how surprised was I when I bought this shiny.

And then he would use 20% of the cards power for his 30fps computer game and waste 300-400$ since a 100$ card can run ffxi just as well.

Thanks for your replies, i was hoping to see that the higherend cards wouldnt drop in FPS it seems that no matter what kind of card you have the game inevitably still has drops in certain areas.

My idea = Highend card + FFXI = FPS 30 in all areas.

This seems not to be the case.

Because there is only FFXI in life.
