sinus/allergy problems halp

So basically i'm not sure if i'm having spring allergies right now or not. My nose is stuffed and probably will be for a week or so and then it'll come back a month later and then stop and then come back a month later, and i'll be good til i get my first winter cold and then the cycle will start up again. We're in between insurance right now (anthem are faggots) so i dont want to go to the doctor for this yet, but this has been going on for a while and all they've ever said is take allergy medicine and it will go away (it doesnt).

I've used claritin, zicam, tried this airborne shit, sudafed, etc, but nothing is really working. I think a lot of it has to do with the shitty air quality we have here (3rd worst in the country:Rankings - American Lung Association site) because when i'm out of town it goes away pretty instantly.

Knowing i am surrounded by sinus troubled nerdkin, i'm hoping someone has a suggestion that will hold me over until i move outta this horrible city. I'm open for recommendations, and i've got about 100 bucks im willing to blow trying stuff

i dont know if this is allowed in the states or not because i've been looking for it and cant find any, but this always work for me 100% of the time when i have a really bad stuffed nose.

This used to be prescription only but now you can buy it over the counter, it works really well if its the air quality (allergies, etc). The downside however is it will run you like $30 for 45 pills(1 per day).

Gross story time! When my Mum was about 18 she used to get really heavy sinus migraines so off she goes to the Doc. "No worries" says he, "we can fix that with a simple operation!". So off she goes to hospital for the op. They give her some injections then proceed to stick heated hooks up through the roof of her mouth into her nasal cavity and scrape/scar/burn the inside of it to stop it producing the fluid that was the cause of her problems, and apparently it hurt more than giving birth. She says she will remember the popping sound as the hooks went through for the rest of her life. Thank God we don't live in the sixties anymore :D

thats just for allergies, he also has sinus congestion...

you can try alavert D12, claritin D, or Zyrtec D... those are allergies + decongestant... if those do not help you then yes you do need to see a doctor to get a prescription for a nasal spray like nasonex or generic flonase (fluticasone)..

edit: also if you are strap for cash just buy the generic equivalent: walitin D or Walzyr if you are going to walgreens.. not sure what CVS/Walmart call theirs

lol this is actually funny cause i was just thinking about posting something similar. I always feel like i suffer from like chronic nasal congestion. Anyways those vicks vapor inhaler things don't work. Actually i think they make you worse with prolonged use. If what your problem is coming from is the crappy air and not pollen, etc then I'd say try a neti pot http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8sDIbRAXlg It's not as gross as it looks. It cleans your nasal passage of all dirt and mucus and all that good stuff.

medipot is more for when you have a cold with sinus congestion though, its not usually used for allergies because you are going to have it almost every day

I had one once, and it was about a 2 minute appointment, he prescribed some penicillin and it went away in 3 days. Shouldn't be too rough on your pocket book but might want to ask just in case.

nope, sinus infections only come when i get a cold, which is how i know the difference. Snots all clear and pretty right now, theres just a fuckton of it and its going between coming out by the fuckton and being stuffed into super compressed high-pressure nasal shittyness.

And vapo-rub and other stuff like that only clear it out temporarily, and then its just back in whenever, and it takes a while to get it all out anyways. I'll try out zyrtec D and post results.

Also if it helps at all there's some mild throat congestion and pain. Chest is fine though.

Claritin sucks ass, but for some reason Lotramine, (generic Claritin) does the trick. A bottle sells for less than $10 and it works after a few days of regular use. Part of the problem may be related to the change in season too. If that's what it is then nothing is really going to help for the next few weeks.
