Songs costing 99 cents on Amazon and ITunes, it's not a big deal. WHOLE ALBUMS ON THE OTHER HAND...!!!
The first anime was fine... but the manga's story is much better overall. It really is no contest.
I also didn't like the parallel universe aspect of the first anime so much. They also butchered many of the homunculus and Hohenheim in the first anime (Hohenheim was pretty much useless...). Dante holds no candle to Father, either.
They had a backup -- Marco. Also, I think, somewhere they talk about how all the candidates are people who are compelled not to run away but to make a difference or w/e. I think one of the Homunculus says it when fighting them, but I can't remember which/when and I could just be making this up...
I was under the assumption that the manga ended and a new one started for Brotherhood. That could be why I was getting confused.
Somewhat random comment, but i've been power watching FMA:B and i have a comment about, episode 34. My major/specialty in college is metallurgy and material science, and in ep 34 they mention that in cold weather they use a composite of Duralumin (an aluminum alloy), Carbon fiber, nickel, and copper to make automail that wont cause frostbite. the thing is all of those materials have greater coefficient of thermal conduction then steel, therefore would cause frostbite quicker then steel would.
In general it is a great anime/manga (been reading some of the manga material they skipped in brotherhood), but still little things as a materials engineer bother me to some degree.
I should be caught up by next week to discuss the most recent chapter/episode.
What happened was that the original anime was the same as the manga for a few episodes, but right when Greed was introduced, the mangaka let the anime people do their own story, because the anime would catch up with the manga too quickly and they'd have to create filler.
Brotherhood is the second anime that actually follows the manga (and extremely closely too, they shortened a few parts).
Standard practice with an animated series of a still-active comic is to do filler. The animation catches up with the comic, so they create their own story for a while until the comics get far enough ahead to let the animation do a story arc without catching up. Sometimes for shorter series though they just create their own ending and go off in a different direction than the comics. FMA's animation did the latter for the first series. Brotherhood branches around the introduction of Greed, and follows the comics, while the original series and movie were pulled out of the ass of the animation director.
Four comic issues or so tend to equate to one episode of a show, so you catch up quickly, and at one issue per week and one episode per week, with rarely a week off on either, something has to give if they don't let the comic end first.
Bleach, Naruto, and One Piece follow the option of filler arcs instead, which rarely achieve anything that affects the main storyline, because they risk creating conflicts with the comics that aren't written yet. Usually it boils down to an occasionally recurring gag character they keep that only appears in the animation and they write into the main arcs. Some people choose to skip filler arcs for that reason, since whatever happens in the filler is usually undone or unimportant by the time they are finished.
Out of curiosity, would there be any metal or combinations that wouldn't frost over quickly? Personally can't fault an artist for not knowing the finer details, and I guess the alternative to known materials would be like taking a Star Trek level of technobabble with things like dilithium crystals and tachyon particles.
I was aware of filler, just not that the FMA manga was still going. Filler killed Naruto for me, and I hear its really bad in Bleach so I don't keep up on that either. I think One Piece is funny, but I wouldn't know filler from story in that.
The only real issue i took was with the reason given, because it was completely false, and there is actually a real world reason to give for not using steel in cold temperatures. Ductile to brittle transition temperature, would had been a far better and very accurate reason.
Cliffnotes explanation below a certain temperature, steel goes from being ductile to brittle, meaning it is far more likely to crack/fracture/shatter. That temperature, in general, is determined by the quantity of the steel, generally speaking caused by having to much sulfur impurities. This also happens in other metals but steel is by far the most commonly seen, given possible temperatures, and how much steel is used. Also the replacement metals given wouldn't have that occur. Also the technology of the vaguish time would indicate that it would be a problem.
As far as a solution to prevent frost, (since it is already a composite with carbon fibers in there) the best thing to do would be to insulate where the arm attaches to the body with something with low thermal conductivity. What that would be is harder to say without knowing what is available in-universe, rubbers/polymers would probably be out, so probably would need to be a ceramic.
Yes, but it still conducts thermally better then your actual body fluids therefore wouldn't help. As for the arm generating it's own heat, IDK I don't think it was stated what powered auto-mail or if it would produce heat.
Automail have to generate heat. They aren't magical, and since FMA attempts to follow normal sciences when they aren't doing alchemy, you can't have movement without heat.
How are they powered? I've no fucking clue, but they have to be powered by something.
Well it's science up till mass balances, there is all kinds of things they ignore that's not worth looking into.
At any-rate my complaint was directed at one specific thing, and mostly its just because someone could had researched for 20~30 min, and discovered that their explanation didn't work so much, and that there is a better one, that would have given them a nice frame of ed's arm shattering while just punching Buccaneer or something.
