There will be movies. It'd make no sense for there not to be. As is, the premise of Al running around in Xing studying their alchemy could lead to any number of things, even if it's just as simple as some splinter group wanting to kill Lin to take his throne. Of course, this would all conveniently happen as Ed comes to visit his brother.
And does what? Movies would be unnecessary worthless filler.
Hello. I am an instrument used to make money. Have we met?
I'm not familiar with this ringing a story out for more money. Milking, if you will.
My point is what the hell would ed do if he even did show up in potential worthless movies.
Hello, my name is money. I make people not care about things like continuity, common sense, or what is right, or moral. I make people put out shit that will sell anyways. Should I introduce you to my friend Name Branding?
You're not answering the question.
GIVEN that the scenario exists, WHAT would Ed do exactly?
same thing she's doing

the fuck do I care?
The producers and the companies don't care either.
He could wear a penis pump on his forehead and balance on a beach ball and they wouldn't care.
I can't make this point any more clear.
That is not the fucking point.
"What would he do"
Not "Why even add him?"
But literally what the fuck would he do? This isnt a loaded question. If your answer is balance a beach ball on his head then that's a fucking answer, I don't care about how little you care. This isnt a question about dragging the series along, I'm asking about what utility he would serve in any milking spinoffs. If they were about al that would be fine.
Milking the franchise would be terrible at this point, but it's not like you need alchemy to be badass. There is more than a few characters who can pull their weight without using alchemy.
I could certainly see a movie coming out of this given the huge fan-bases from both the manga and anime to appeal to and an anime/new season not happening.
The story seems completely wrapped up as it is, which I'm thankful for, so I can only imagine them showing some points of the story that could be fleshed out, but in that instance I don't imagine it'd be starring Ed & Al anymore. Maybe something with the Armstrong family, maybe more of Hohenheim's life, hard to say without seeing the last episode.
With the gap in popularity this series had over the original I'd have to imagine nothing would happen unless the mangaka wrote the storyline, though.
edit: derp, as mentioned I guess it could extend into Al's life now . . . assuming Ed settles down with the hot blonde.
If there is a movie, I bet it would be another filler around the time they became state alchemist. So easy to fit standalone story around that time (that's when the games and filler happen).
Think they would go in that direction again though? With how popular Brotherhood is over the first series I'd think they'd learn their lesson about abusing a series with filler, even if just in this instance. Then again I have no idea how well the games did. I guess it's not like the first anime wasn't wildly popular, just seems like this one is much more.
People like Armstrong's sister and Ed's teacher were crazy strong. Since he is smart, strong and fast, give him a few years and he could probably match most characters.
Anyway, if there is a movie, you know he is going to get back his power one way or the other. No way they have a full metal "alchemist" without alchemy.
I don't know, but I would rather get a filler than something that mess up with the perfect ending.
If the author is involved, then I don't know. I'm sure she could pull off something interest, but if they are milking the franchise for the sake of it, it would be bad.
Sometimes I think people here just want to hate filler because it's filler, written by the author or not. Would this even be an issue if there was no manga as the original source?
The only movie I'd want to see is an expansive version on Ed and the gang's life and not so much a 'battle another big bad'. That'd leave a sour taste in my mouth, tbh. Even if it were to be written by the same author. On that note, I wouldn't doubt us seeing an omake of some sort later on, and maybe them turning that into a short film. That'd be fine.
Yup, but it's not like Izumi was weak without alchemy. It's not like a decoration make you powerful either. Ed was able to dodge Greed's, Pride's, Scar's, Humunculus's attacks without alchemy...I'm not sure where you get the idea he would be worthless without it, especially if he train more.
Anyway, this argument is beyond pointless. They could easily write his character eitherway (useless or powerful), without retconning anything.
I wonder if they could sell a long epilogue disguised as a movie. Count me in if it happen though.
