Speed is only good if you do something interesting with it. Any damn idiot with fast fingers can go up and down some scales at Malmspeed,* but to borrow something I heard about Miles Davis, "if those guys could express something in ten notes, Miles could do it in three." Choosing the best notes is better than playing everything and hoping you hit one.
