I'm hoping those of you who are getting shit thrown at you pick it up and throw it right back twice as hard.
Only thing I've ever had throw at me are compliments from da ladies because Tyche is teh hotzauce. I couldn't imagine having someone throw shit at me. I usually run in fairly decent neighborhoods though. I don't like staring at ghetto's when I'm out.
Where do you run? I used to run cross-country in high school (West High) and ran quite a bit around Rose Park and never had anything thrown at me... Although I was once chased by a couple gang members for wearing a red shirt lol.
Spent the last few years getting soft in the middle, but just trying to start running again as of last week. So far, Sugarhouse seems runner friendly.
Edit: Question for some of the long time runners out there. Any suggestions for someone that has to carry a phone? I'm on call for work one week out of every three so I have to wear a pager. Need to also carry a phone just in case the pager goes off during the run.
Swim laps :D
Along with getting in shape, go to a running event around your area. They hand out free shit like no tomorrow. I scored 2 free T-shirts and a spike bag last week at an invite lol.
I have a blackberry 88xx series. It's a pretty big phone and I always run with it. The keypockets in my nike shorts usually hold it fine. I'll hold it in with a safetypin. My raceday shorts have a zipper pocket on the ass that the phone goes in. As far as talking while running, I use motorola bluetooth headphones. I just load playlists onto my blackberry and if I get a call, the song will pause and the headphones will beep. Just like every other bluetooth headset, you just hit a button and start talking.
Anybody familiar with the C-PAT? Working on training for that (not going to be taking it for 1.5-2 years), and was wondering what specifically I should be focusing on.
I'm starting in so so shape, bad endurance (Endurance being, 30 minutes of running and I'm pouring sweat), but decent strength. I'm 6'4", 225 lbs.
Right now I'm working on cardio obviously, on the treadmill for 30 minutes a day. After that, bicycle for 20 minutes. Then 30 minutes of upper or lower strength, switching off muscle pairs and days.
I know one of the ideas of the C-PAT is being able to move a 75 lb hose up 6(?) flight of stairs, and then lift a 50lb weight up from the ground floor.
What else can should I expect? What can I train for to make this into a near guaranteed pass. What can I do to impress any recruiters scanning, etc.
Good, cuz if you would of answered your bluetooth while we were running it would of been tossed immediately into the Cumberland River, nearest storm drain, or into a port o jon.
Not even sure what a C-PAT is I guess it is so you can become a Fireman ?
Just focus on your core. If you work that out everything else will follow. I always encourage swimming as well.
It's not the nerdy one-eared bluetooth. It's actual headphones that wrap around your head, just without pesky wires. Fucking hate wires.

I'm not sure how well I can contribute since I'm overweight and yes, obese =(
But I have begin my diet and exercise routine for 3 weeks now. I was 310 lbs from the start and now I'm 280 while finishing my fourth week. Results are nice and I haven't weighted myself this week yet, not until monday. I only weight weekly since it says it helps if I did it in increments.
I'm 6'6, tall freak and with a BMI of 31 at 310 lbs which is horrid. My normal weight should be between 160-202 so I'm aiming for 180. However, I do set realistic goals like 5 lbs for this week.
My recommandation, do Yoga. I started to do Yoga and it's AMAZING. I can't do all the poses but the stretching really helps.
I used to run too and not outside. You can try running in your apartment or house like I did though now I don't recommand it. I did that and hurt my ankle which still hurts like hell. I tried running with the pain and I just cringe and burst into tears afterward, it's a killer. My left leg feels like its burning and its all sore and bruised . . . yeah.
So instead of running I took up swimming which I just started this week. So far it's been awesome. My ankle doesn't hurt and is recovering and I'm getting a lot of aerobic exercise.
Right now this is my daily routine.
I get up at 5:30 in the morning to swim laps before work at 8:00. Usually get out of the pool at 7:15, long commute.
During lunch, I climb stairs. Yes, climb stairs. I work on the death star (aka At&t) and our building is three-stories tall. I used to walk outside since our building is somewhat remote but you know, passing cars, rain, wind, dust etc etc. So I got the bright idea to climb stairs a week ago when it rained and its been working out great, much better than walking. Beware though, wear lots of deodorizer if you are doing this at work. >_>;
At night I do 30 minutes of stretching/Yoga and weight lifting, something that I really enjoy. I don't really meditate but just discover weird part of my body under all the fat. As for weight lifting, I bought my own equipments. Actually their water tanks. You know, those gallon water tanks for 99 cents from any supermarket. They are superb weights, free handles and you can add more weights by putting sand in it. Much more cheaper than a gym. I bought like 6 of them and I also bought a long iron shower rod from home depot and made my own bench press. I know its ghetto but it's cheap and it works.
So that's my daily routine for now.
I have a problem though, the indoor pool I go to doesn't open on saturday and sunday in the morning so I can't swim on the weekend. What should I do to replace it? Climb more stairs at work? I can't really run yet, I don't want to until my ankle fully heals. Thanks =D
Hmmm. Someone should make a thread about weight loss. I think I might post my before/after picture and give a weekly summary. Okay, definitely no before picture, I'm sure nobody wants to go blind. But an after one . . . .
Also in Utah here, but I mostly run in the south end of the Valley. On or around Wasatch and big/little cottonwood canyons. Much less smog up here, and it's a much nicer area.
I sometimes run with these guys Salt Lake City Track Club to change things up a bit.
can look into that if you're looking for a group to run with. there is a membership fee, but it's like $10 a year or something really cheap. they do at least 2 runs a week. Fun and friendly group, it was worth joining for me. They mostly run in the northern end of the valley, around the U, Avenues, Memorial Grove, ect, but do mix it up a little.
as for the throwing stuff, it's pretty much always been highschool/college kids out in moms suv trying to be cool or something. people honk sometimes, trying to scare you, or just girls honking because you're looking good![]()
