he grabbed the romulan's pistol that was still holstered he didn't take his larger weap iirc
I think the best thing out of the movie was the fact that they used Beastie Boys - Sabotage in the soundtrack.
Man I just got back from seeing this movie for the first time and I loved it!!!! I was so excited through familiar parts of the movie, I began to realize I really am a Trekkie. Not the Klingon dressing up kind that argues over the physics of space, but the kind that just really enjoyed seeing a fresh prospective on some of the classic characters. I grew up watching this with my dad, saw the movies, went to a convention >.> (just once), and worked at a sci-fi collectable store. I even met the original Chekov once, I think he was promoting a book...idk.
Anyway I had many favorite parts but here are some I remember offhand.
- Young Chekov having a hard time prounoucing his v's as wubbayuus to log in
- Zulu kicking ass, and being asked if he left the parking break on
- Dammit Jim! I am a doctor not a physicist!
- Leonard Nimoy!!! His appearance, acting, end voiceover!
- Scotty was awesome. Lots of throwback quotes.
- Young Spock, his dynamic with Kirk and the eyebrow thing
- Uhura looking hot in her younger years.
So I just saw this a bit ago, and man.. exceeded my expectations honestly. I'm not a "Trekkie" persay, but I do enjoy the characters. I thought the acting was pretty damned good and in character for the most part, and I actually didn't have any issues with Kirk's actor. I thought he had that pompous attitude that fit him, and there were moments in the movie involving pretty much all of the characters that made me chuckle. Scotty was fucking hilarious as well.
Honestly, I'd see it again to see if I could pick up on any other similarities to the series of old.
For those that haven't ever watched ToS before. You can watch the 3 seasons (I think minus pilot) here.

edit: Just as a note, if you want to skip through the commercials & ads displayed throughout each episode. Use Firefox + Adblock/Noscript to block them out.
Cheers.
^seen it all already but thanks for sharing it for those who haven't. internet high five etc.
Thanks for the link, going through the series now.
true fan buys it for 30$ a pop
Anyone else get choked up in the elevator scene with Spock and Uhura? ('-'*)
Not so much, but the opening sequence was quite sad.
Spoiler: show
All in all, 'Fake Trek Science' aside, it was a fantastic movie. Simon Pegg as Scotty just sealed the deal for me.
1) It wasn't accurately explained in the movie, but it wasn't that the super nova would itself threaten the galaxy, but that the destruction of Romulus, which is one of the major powers in the galaxy, would lead to political instability that could bring about a war which would at least threaten the Alpha/Beta Quadrants. You'd have races like the Klingons, the Breen, and others scrambling to conquer the now crippled remains of the Romulan Star Empire, and the Federation would get involved trying to maintain peace.
2) Pike probably used his influence as Admiral to push Kirk up the line of promotion, which wouldn't be out of character for Pike given how strongly he felt about Kirk joining Starfleet in the beginning of the film and how he chose him to be acting first officer over any of the other officers that were there.
I have little knowledge of Star Trek apart from the clichés and a few episodes of that one with Patrick Stewart in. I got a fair few of the "jokes" though - "I'm a doctor not a physicist," red shirt dying, "he's dead," etc.
Thoroughly enjoyed the film. I was a little upset atbut I guess that just proves Stalin right.Spoiler: show
Honestly went into this with no expectations (didn't read any reviews or opinions) and can say I enjoyed this movie.
Wish Kirk weren't such a jobber for the most part though.
I wouldn't mind seeing it again if I could find a.. good source. >.>
Unless you like xvid (which is complete shit), no.

all of DS9, all of TOS 2 are not pictured upstairs being watched, 2 box sets of all the movies up to nemesis with the directors cuts on all of them and without, 2 seasons of enterprise (have all of them burned/dl'ed), just s1 of voyager as i am starting to get that collection moving, missing s2 and s3 of TNG just because that was the first set i started collecting and 2/3 were not the best of the series and i moved along to DS9 since it was a bit cheaper (this is when they were 160$ a season and not 30$ -.-), up on top of DS9 are some bonus CD's that came with the sets not sure what they are haven't watched most of them
not pictured is my star trek encyclopedia, the star charts book, the ds9 companion, and the prequel comic to the most recent movie
also that is not a bat'leth(sp?) it's a reverse that a friend of mine's parents gave to me when he passed just hung it cuz he was a super cool guy and didnt deserve to go
