I haven't watched much Star Trek myself. (watched a few TOS and NextGen, a bit DS9 and most of Voyager) I have watched all the Star Trek movies though.

I really liked the movie. Mostly for the great action scenes and I felt they did a pretty good job with the chars(except for one thing that irked me). The plot had a bunch of holes imo though.

The only thing that irked me, character wise, was Spock and Uhura making out the whole movie. It just didn't look right and personally, I think it hurt Spock's character some. The entire Time Travel/Alternate Reality seemed to be an easy way for the writers to write whatever they wanted and not have to care much about anything previously in the Star Trek universe.

Some of the holes in the plot, imo(not including any obvious issues with singularities and black holes and time travel and all that). How exactly did a Romulan Mining Vessel(with, I assume, no scientist's aboard) calculate the exact time and place that Spock was going to emerge from the singularity? What the hell were they doing for 25 years without being found by anyone? (Other then obviously waiting for Spock) Why didn't they look 25 years older when they picked up Future Spock?

Just saw this the other night.

Been a ST fan for awhile (well, more a fan of the series then the movies) but I gotta say, I love what they did with the reboot.

I actually liked having Nimoy over Shatner in the film, I like Shatner, but he just doesn't pull off action scenes very well compared to other actors in his age group.

Really surprised that "Sylar" could pull off Spock, didn't think the actor could do the role justice, but glad to see I was wrong. Though I admit I kept expecting him to lop off someone's scalp.

For the most part I think they did a great job at picking the actors, kinda awesome to see people who are more often associated with a different genre preform well in a different role (i.e the guy playing Sulu, he did a good job, though no disrespect, he is no George Takai <3)

Loved all the nods to the long time fans of the series, they were well done without seeming overly cheesy.

Looking forward to further revisioning of the series, would love to see them do something like this with TNG (Yea Patrick Stewart rocks, but damn Riker has gotten old)

The intro with Kirk's father was great as well, kinda feel odd that it effected me more then an entire planet going boom.

Oh, and new Scotty is friggen awesome.

the ship you see in the movie is nothing like the actual mining ship that Nero originally had before he witnessed the destruction of Romulus, they eventually find a secret Romulan base that was meant for just this circumstance where they found surviving Romulans that had Borg technology (really high end crazy ass Borg tech) that they had been developing for years and they upgraded Nero's ship, so you could say that this Borg tech could have been used to scan for temporal anomalies much a kin to seven of nine did in more then one ep of VOY

and you do notice some age on Nero, not much but you notice his ear is damaged around the time he captured Spock but isn't when he is first attacking the kelvin which is the battle I'm assuming he obtained that damage from

there is also another small plot hole in saying that Tiberius Kirk saved 800 people from Nero on the kelvin but you only see perhaps 10 ships evac'ing which could be explained away by saying there were other ships/pods that aren't in the frame when you see the the kelvin heading in for a collision

George Kirk was James Kirk's father, Tiberius was George's father's name, thus James' grandfather. As for the pods, you see quite a few of them and given the size of some of them (assuming that some of them were possibly on par with the personnel ships seen later on when the cadets were being taken to the Enterprise and the other ships as far as capacity), we can assume that quite a few people can fit on board.

Finally got round to seeing this tonight and as a bit of a dedicated Trekkie the wait was unbareable! (Money issues ) Went with my dad who is also a Trekkie and we were both delightfully surprised. They really did breathe new life into the series.

Really impreesed with McCoy. All his mannerisms are spot on and his quotes, although a little obvious, did make me chuckle. Same with Spock and Chekov. Loved Scotty, although english pegg did slip thru now and again but so did the original Scottys canadian accent so we'll let him off with that. Plus hes hilarious. I loved the "Get the f...Get down from there!" part. Made me lol

All in all, a brilliant film. Trying to go see it again with my non-trekkie bf but i don't think hes playing ¬_¬ Twat.

er was not as clear as I thought but I meant that in the first episode his human ancestry its introduced its not that his mother is a human but rather that an ancestor of Spock had a human wife, they clarify it to his mom being human a few eps later where Sulu has his famous shirtless fencing..

I liked it -- sat quite close to the screen so all the visuals were just so in my face. I got to page 4 of this thread and just wanted to point out how much I loved the soundtrack since I didn't see many people mention it. I have a question though, what year was the film supposed to be taking place in? I know they said stardate whateverwhatever but I didn't know what that meant...
