UK, January 11, 2010 - The sequels to Star Trek and Wolverine could be going head-to-head in the summer of 2012.

Paramount will release J.J. Abram's sci-fi follow-up on June 29, 2012, which will see the film hit theatres on the coveted July 4 weekend -- traditionally one of the most profitable slots in the movie calendar.

We don't have such precise info on Wolverine 2, but Hugh Jackman said at the Peoples Choice Awards (first spotted by Superhero Hype!) that the follow-up would start shooting in 2011, paving the way for a summer 2012 release.

It's already been announced that Marvel's The Avengers will kick off the season, having already nabbed the May 4 slot.

I don't think a new wolverine would make for much of a head to head contest against Star Trek if the first movies are any indication of quality.
