'Star Trek' has galactic $76.5 million opening - Yahoo! Movies

It beat The Dark Knights IMAX record.

I saw that it made 70M~ but I knew in the back of my head that was nowhere close to the overall box office for TDK in the first weekend which was 155M or so.

Also, not hating. Loved the movie, just wanted to see where it was reported.

I kind of wish they didnt skip the 3 years of boot camp though, there could have been a lot of fun stuff there.

I didn't say it had to: if you have any military experience you know it would not happen in a modern military. It's such a gigantic leap that it borders on parody in fact.

But! I do not care. I'm able to ignore it because it was fiction, thus reality doesn't apply. I'm simply saying that the implication that a midshipmen officer would be advanced to captain of the flagship is ludicrous, and for some of my military friends something they can't ignore.

With this new alternative universe it can go places. With

stuck in this universe he could be useful in a sequel against a newer foe that appears just because of the timeline change and then they could move the rest onto comics.

One of the best movies I've seen in a long time. I'm not a big Trekky fan, although I did like the one with Janeway or w/e, that one was good. This movie was absolutely awesome, would def see again, and I hate watching movies twice.

It was a very low turn out over here. When I went to buy tickets 15mins in advanced I asked worriedly if the show was sold out, the girl laughed an said no lol. We get in the theater and theres like 30 people and only a few more show up >.x

Yeah, when I went Friday night I thought it was going to be packed. We got there almost an hour early, and we were 3rd in line for the 8pm showing. The preview starts and there is maybe 40 people there. At first I was shocked, then realized they were showing the movie in 4 theaters. They had a movie starting almost every 30mins.

everyone was but as somebody who used to watch tos reruns with my dad and saw most of the movies with him (he was a pretty big trekkie without the ears) and we both were tng nerds, I was super happy with it

I'm lost as to how you can accept the fact that they had time travel and two identical humans together at once, but the fact that a newbie is captaining a ship is absurd. Maybe it's just because I never watched star trek. The fact that there were stars just flying past the ships was the most mind numbing part to me. Stars are thousands of light years apart and this ship was going past them like a car goes past the yellow lines on a road.

We saw it in IMAX but there were only 10 people in the theater alltogether.

Great movie. I thought all the characters fit pretty well, especially Bones.

I'm lost as to how you can accept the fact that they had time travel and two identical humans together at once, but the fact that a newbie is captaining a ship is absurd. IIRC they were travelling at warp 4 on the bit this stands out on, warp speed is equivelant to light (again iirc). It goes something like warp1 = speed of light, but then for warp2+ its whatever the number is cubed, so warp 4 would be like 64x the speed of light.

But still a bit silly they even use the same CGI for warp1 i guess... looks pretty yo!

That sounds about right...I am going to sound like a nerd for this but
Warp 1 = Speed of Light (186,000 Miles per second or 670 Million miles per hour). Traveling at this speed from Earth you could reach Pluto in about 6 hours time.

Warp 1 ^3 = Speed of light
Warp 2 ^3 = 8x Speed of LIght
Warp 3 ^3 = 24x Speed of Light
Warp 4 ^3 = 64x Speed of Light

so on and so forth. This was the old equation used in the original series, and NCC-1701 (Enterprise) was capable of maximum warp of Warp 8 or 512 times the speed of light (Here to Pluto in under 50 seconds).

we were at the friday 9:45 showing and showed up an hour early, and there were already about 100+ people there lining up. Thank god the IMAX theater is huge and can accommodate at least 300+ so we still got good seats. Some people actually dressed up in cadet and trek uniforms.
