Forget the fact that this will fail -- why in the hell did they even want to make a movie out of this?

it would be epic if they used the casting suggestions people made in their comments: keanu reeves to star, robin williams voices the colossi, the rock guest-stars as the horse.
Maybe they think that, if they get a license good enough, it will counterbalance their complete lack of skills in movie making, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't work that way.
I'm not sure if I want to get my hopes up for this. :3
i blame reign over me for incorporating SOTC into their movie for this future abortion![]()
Reign Over Me was great though.
^lol wtf
I say let Michael Bay direct this. Explosions, and maybe an Optimus cameo.
Going with what everyone else said though, this just won't work. :/ This is one of my favorite games too....as long as they leave Zelda, Chrono series, and Xenogears alone. There's still hope...
Hey, that April Fool's Zelda was pretty good![]()
Wow. That Mega64 thing. That's gotta be the most hilarious thing I've seen in a long time. Good show.
^Yeah, the MGS one was good too ;o
Wow, the end of that was fucking perfect and the music made it so much more epic.
That was amazing.
Shadow Of The Colossus Creator Hints At Movie Involvement, Wants PS3 Ports - Tokyo Game Show - Kotaku
During a chat last week with Kotaku about his upcoming PlayStation 3 game, developer Fumito Ueda discussed two key, but uncertain, developments regarding his much-loved PlayStation 2 work.
Ueda indicated that he will play some role in the creation of the April-announced Shadow of the Colossus movie. The project would turn into a movie the Ueda-directed 2005 PS2 adventure that featured a boy wandering the plains, hunting quiet lumbering beasts. "It won't be that I'm completely not involved," he said of the film.
The developer shied away from providing details about the planned movie.
The spring announcement of the Hollywood project was received skeptically among gamers scorched by a film industry that has failed to make good movies about games half as subtle and respected as Shadow of the Colossus. Ueda's apparent involvement in the film, if significant enough, could calm some of that concern.
Ueda also provided us a minor update on the future of both Shadow of the Colossus and its predecessor, Ico, on modern video game systems. Both games are considered modern classics and are at least thematically linked to Ueda and Team Ico's next project, The Last Guardian. (Read Ueda talk more about The Last Guardian.) The recent announcement of a slightly-enhanced port of the PS2 God of War games to the PS3 has compelled gamers to buzz about their hope for a similar compilation port of the PS2's Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. The developer wants it to happen too.
"I do have an interest in that," Ueda said during our Friday chat. "Next week, I'll have a meeting [about the possibility] ... But it might not be so easy, because, with both titles we really stretched the limits of the PS2. It's complex. So it's not such an easy transfer to the PS3. But I want to discuss it."
Probably gonna get a lot of hate for this but...
It is possible to make the story of SotC into a movie, you just have to delve into the bits that the game never mentioned. There is a story before the story in SotC that could be used to help bring more human interaction without completely negating that feeling of loneliness you experience when you're in the valley.
Start the movie before a fight, have the Wanderer slowly creeping up on a Colossus then have them do battle. At this point he should already be weary and disheveled, like he's been there for a while. After he wins, and he blacks out from the tendril bits, you show a flash back scene of his arrival at the temple, and the deal he makes. From there you have him wake up again, the statues around him mostly crumbled, Dormin praising him for his work and egging him on to the next. From there, you cut to Lord Emon gathering his warriors and preparing to depart towards the temple. Through out the film you jump around from Wanderer alone in the Valley, Colossi fight scenes, flash backs explaining why Mono was sacrificed, how the Wanderer got his sword and headed out, and scenes of Lord Emon's approach.
Through out the film you would be given a larger picture of the events that were occurring, the world in which they live and insight into the loneliness the Wanderer experiences during his journey, bits and pieces at a time. It would keep that feeling of isolation and desolation you experience in the game, allow the story to actually be fleshed out and a bit more engaging and give a slightly bigger cast of characters to the film. The Wanderer and Agro will still be alone in the Valley, but you would be able to learn more about why he is doing what he is doing and why there are those that oppose him. If it was done in that style, where it held true to the game in both story and spirit, and only expanded on the entire experience slightly, it might turn out well.
But in truth, it's going to be a hunk of steaming cow turd, a massive box office bomb and a step in the entirely wrong direction in terms of both seeing video games as an art form as well as their viability to be turned into feature length major motion pictures.
