They did use POL for 3 other major games: Front Mission Online (on PC and PS2, shut down about a year ago), Dirge of Cerberus' 32-player online mode (Japan-only), and Fantasy Earth (PC-only, before they sold it off to GamePot and it got set to no longer use POL).
Still, they're not using POL on any newer platforms except for FFXI. They did it because there was no centralized communication line and online service for PS2, and they expected to have lots of games on it between SquareSoft, Enix, and Namco. The hard drive not being released in Europe, and after great delay in North America with a shortened production period, made it hard for them to release such games, as everything would require a hard drive.
I'm not sure how Nobunaga's Ambition Online works for account management on PS2, but it seems KOEI has nothing like POL for it. That game is way too heavy on kanji for me, and I'm not familiar with vocabulary of the series like I am with FF to be able to even try to play it without an English interface.
Guys serious question is serious:
I just canceled my square enix account for a reason not to be disclosed, but now I can't log in? It still asks for my square enix password and one time password even though it's unlinked, so the password and one time password don't even work, even though I know both of them.
So will the unlinking take more time then I thought? Should I wait and try tomorrow? What do you guys think?
Um.. if you're not trolling, it's been known since day 1 that you cannot delete your SE account and still login if you have a token. Basically, you are screwed and have to call SE customer support telling them that you deleted your SE account but have a security token enabled, they should be able to do something for you.
Those SE accounts and the tokens are forever linked, meaning if you lose one, you can't login anymore unless you have customer service help you out.
When you closed your Square Enix Account, you closed all IDs linked to it. You just banned yourself from FFXI by doing that.
Tokens CAN be unlinked. Square Enix Accounts CANNOT be unlinked, ever. The link is permanent. Token UNLINKING is also permanent, you can't relink the token later, you have to buy a completely new token if you want the protection again.
They explain this in the rules and warning pages when you are trying to link a POL ID or token. It's in the FAQs they posted when they released the SE Account system. It's explained in the first few pages of this very thread.
Say
anybody of you also has problems with the page were you open your account and add your token?
getting the "Maintenence" screen since monday now, but i kinda cant find anything saying that there actually IS a maintenence .. i wanna have my satchel now D:
I want to rent your space in exchange for a bit of info:
SE ships security tokens for NA accounts to Europe, if you select your country and enter your shipping address outside North America.
I started playing half a year before EU release, ordered a sectoken a month ago and just got it in the mail. I'm living in Germany. Couldn't get a definitive answer to this before.
I'm wondering, if for example I have 5 accounts linked to one token ID, assuming I'm REALLLLLLY fast, can I click the token once and then slap all 5 passwords in at one go and login ok?
Interested to know because someone I know is fearing about the battery life after I told her someone's token battery died (from the other thread I think).
No, each password expires after 1 use. You have to wait 30 seconds for a new password each time. There's only 1 login per password. Otherwise the system would be vulnerable.
Thanks, I'll relay the info.
When I quit, a friend linked my account to his SE account and bought a security token. He unlinked it after getting both our accounts mog satchels. Now I'm wondering, if I have another account linked now that the token is gone will they get mog satchels? Can I order a new security token for the account that already had one unlinked and get mog satchels for the new account and have the upgraded security for my account?
The problem is that it will link his SE account to the token you get, so he'll have to contact you every time he wants to log into any of his POL IDs that are linked to that SE account. If you upgrade your security, it will do so for the entire SE account, not just the one POL ID.
Satchels are only granted to new characters and accounts if a token is active on the account at the time, or one is added after creation. If you unlink the token, your new characters won't have satchels, but it doesn't take away the satchels you already have. This was all mentioned in the FAQs, updates, and earlier in this thread.
Figured i post it here as well.
My token is deactivated/unlinked, trying to update my SEPW and Secret question and answer, and it suddenly starts asking me for the SE one time password. Is this a glitch?
All of the sudden my token stopped working.
I thought the battery was dead or something, but then a couple of hours later I pushed its button and it started generating some strange alphanumeric things...
batt 71
Soft3328
8SFFFFFF
then u keep pushing and it starts writing
8S8SFFFF
8S8S8SFF
8S8S8S8S
then it shuts down again
:-/
Security token doesn't go in water
just saying
This should've been a big clue.

i recently sold my char to a buddy he put a security token on it
now i decided to pay him back for te char he unlinked the security token and now either of us can log into the game, yes i realize i should call SE and get help, the real question about all of this is i dont ahve original reg codes...
can i still call SE and get this fixed or is my char gone for good
When you call SE, make sure you tell them that you sold the character, and you are just buying it back.
They'll totally understand!
