Just finished Bastok and I have to say it was pretty good for once, doesn't beat Windurst/San d'Oria though they have always been the best imo

lol.. theres not enough discussion on nation quest storylines..
i think SE is doing a great job with the nation quest storylines and the story-telling is getting more and more compelling.. too bad lotsa people dont see this cos they don't bother to play or only play 1 side..

i like how each nation gets a different overall theme and feel of the stories..
Sandy is more innocent, with the focus on the children..
Bastok is more political and suspenseful..
Windy is more.. um.. action packed...

i guess its for this fact alone that Windy still gets the best cutscenes time after time.. but i feel that Sandy is stepping up and eventually Bastok will.

    now for the spoilers...
    Spoiler: show

I love how the stories are progressing and gradually tying themselves into WotG proper. Already, there is mention of a number of time travelers in the nation quests.. zogbog, lekho and probably robel-akbel... and some other characters who are suspicious.. Klara.

Sandy's questline seems to imply that the next step forward is to the northlands.. which would mean we're pushing much closer to the ending (and also access to northlands!). The events of the CS also signify that invasion/fall of Tavnazia has finally happened, so the very next step left really is the march north and the shadow lord.

Windy's questline seems to conincide with this.. firstly with the assembling of the Hydra Corps...
Lehko and Robel are still both suspicious characters who haven't been explained but will in time, probably.
The invasion of Windurst is yet to come, as is the fall of Karuha as the hero who saves Windy with Fenrir... and Perih Vashai isnt blind yet.
Shantotto's involvement is also something to look out for, even tho it may just be to tie in with the BLM AF story...

Bastok's story is finally heating up. All along there's been no clear antagonist to the story even though hints have been dropped silently, like how Klara keeps having headaches and so on..
Theres a lot less going here, but the story does help to flesh out the history of Zeid who used to be Darksteel Hurricane, and Volker.. and I guess this will eventually escalate into their confrontation of the Shadow Lord.
Another thing is motive of Klara.. it seems like she's being mind-controlled or controlled in some way.. since she is physically herself and she even has her memories intact (when she mentions her history with Zeid when he was first recruited).
So theres no clear intervention by any time-travelers in the Bastok story yet... but she ends off with an interesting line..
something like 'the next time we meet, it wont be me you face'... intrigueing.

All this while the WotG mission story is separate but interwoven with the quest storyline as the same events that drive both stories are happening at the same time. Its a very interesting way of storytelling which works well given that there are so many stories to tell during the war, but also doesn't help with cliffhangers that leave u hanging for so long..

And the story is great. clear, understandable... much better than the zilart/acp writer. I'm glad hes no longer on the main development teams. The story from nation and WotG together is some of the best the game has to offer. I personally think it beats CoP (cos that one had so many irrelevant story arcs and the cutscenes here are way better)

Can't wait for the next instalment of missions/nation quests...

Don't take my fiance to the windy Orc NM... he had the bush targetted after getting his cutscene and managed to click it by accident - with the WHM afk and one of the guys still halfway across the zone. Made for an "interesting" fight (we won but he's not being allowed to live it down for a VERY long time).

Oh hai there, How are the other nation quests going? I'm pretty much finished except for farming the various items needed to wrap up the last Windurst mission. /pokes Rohenda

I think 4x might work as well. We did it easily with five, as PLD, WHMx2, MNK, SAM. TP up prior to start, then PLD tanks the boss. WHMs each Repose one of the helper demons, while the melees unload on the Ahrimans, then mow through the helper demons.

I've heard you can get body boosts and other temp items prior to the fight, when a campaign is going on -- however, we didn't bother. Also didn't check if you can summon an NPC fellow for this fight.

Quick question about the Windurst [s] quest story...
    Spoiler: show

The ghost we encounter in Inner Horutoto Ruins when getting the key item in the latest quest, in what other cutscenes have we seen him before? Who might he be?

Pretty sure you see him in RNG AF quest, SMN AF (or evoker ring?) quest and maybe Windy missions.

Isn't he the Taru who is about to summon fenrir, the one from the "Hero house" in the present? Windurst present mission are confusing the fuck out of me. I can never remember their name, and Taru all look the same.

Right now, Taru are classified in two different category for me:
    -Taru who are Shantoto
    -Taru who are not Shantoto.

    Spoiler: show
Klara's situation is that she's gradually turning into a Gnole via some weird pact with SL. Perhaps the recent deaths were her uncontrolled cliche werewolf killing and that's why she tried to end the case by killing "darksteel".

Been a while since I read this...it's interesting to read this again after completing the quest in the past.

I don't know, but she could be an ahriman doppelganger right now

This is what I pretty much assume, basing off of Septimus' photographic memory that her sickness was dropped with this new line of quests. That and the bit with Zeid she doesn't say anything other than "Do you remember what I told you?" She didn't say she remembered anything about it.

Finishing the Windurst quests now can anyone tell me if Carbuncle also transcends time? It certainly seems like he does...

Quission, I like. And yes, they are awesome. It's the only thing that make me want to play FFXI.

    Spoiler: show
That, and the whole thing in the BC with the ahriman shape shifting, and the Galka flying away after the jump.

I don't know if Carbuncle is a time traveler, but I think Robel Akbel is. No reason to hide his face otherwise, and his speech near the end make it sound like he is trying to prevent something bad from happening. Is there any taru in the future who speak normally?

Sandy mission also included time traveling element. The part in valkurm dune was kinda funny with the orc wondering why the time line changed.

There are several time travelers to be sure. Lehko mentions it pretty specifically during the Windurst Quests, something about us traveling through time & space. I'm still trying to farm up a pixie to finish off the quest- stopped for tonight. That's why I think Carbuncle is at least transcends some form of time, or has the same prophetic abilities as Fenrir. I've never done Waking the Beast or the Windurstian Missions, so perhaps someone can enlighten me. He doesn't seem fazed by the idea of time travelers when Lehko mentions it though.

I really want to figure out who Robel Akbel is, since both him and Lehko have full knowledge of the bridge between past and present. That, and the fact they're keen on changing the timeline, much akin to Zogbog.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's more to Nicolaus either, he seems really important(?). Maybe it's just my bias as liking him the most out of the musketeers

I agree Nicolaus doesn't fit in with the rest, but it's hard to theorize about Bastok storyline since there isn't many weird stuff so far (or maybe I just didnt notice any quote implying time travel)

I don't remember much about "Waking the beast" quest, but I dont think there was anything interesting. Windurst mission were great (not as great as the newer cutscene, but still good). You should give them a try, since outpost don't get wiped like before (almost everything can be soloed, except that lameass lv50 lich)

Waking the Beast as far as i know has nothing to do with this at all and relates more to avatar quests. To me, Carbuncle seems blissfully unaware of time travel or is unable to do so, based on the fact that he doesn't know about Karuha-Fenrir, or the events that will happen in the future.

Robel and Lehko are the only ones on the Windy front who seem to know whats about to happen.

Lol, i like the theory on Klara.. I think theres more than meets the eye about her tho. Strangely it seems that theres no time-traveler in the Bastok story arc

is/was Robel Akbel and Lehko trying to save Kahura-Bahira so that he doesnt have to summon fenrir. also i think Robel might be Ajido-Marujido. First off the Windy Crystal quest start off with him but he's sort of faded into the background. Second, Robel seems to know alot about the Book of the Gods.

I'm more incline to believe that in the original history; he summoned Fenrir incompletely. It's obvious with the way the npcs sound that it would have been impossible to get the items for Glephir during the Crystal war. Not to mention I believe that in the original history he summoned Fenrir much earlier in the war.

It makes sense considering we helped a few time in Fort Naruko. I assume we are delaying the decisive battle against windy, which is why Fenrir wasnt summoned
