Isnt the cap on gear augmentation is lv50? How did you augment lvl72/67 gears?

i got a key from trading 3 seedspalls to the goblin NPC in port. he gave me a key that when i went to the crate in the tenshodo it gave me a wolf mantle w/ +1 attk. i also have the key i got from after the fight w/ several waves (trying intentionally to be aloof to avoid spoilers) in ACP but i've not tried that b/c i don't know if i can replace it and am waiting on more data before i give up something that may be irreplaceable.

does augmenting an item preclude it from being synthed into something else? eg, if you augmented an archer's ring (i know you wouldn't, it's just the first item that came to mind sub 50) can you still synth the aug/ex version into a sniper's ring?
