Xenogears Perfect Works

I just found out about this major Perfect Works Translation project and never heard about it before, so I figure I'd mention it. Could be old and I'm just out of the loop, but I've never seen it before and I'm sure there's other people on the same boat as myself.

The english itself on the translation isn't perfect, but it's visually really well done and uses the original images from the actual book. You can see a bunch at flickr or just look for torrents of "Xenogears Perfect Works Ichiban Manten".

Only quickly glanced it over so far but it's already reminded me of a bunch of little details that I had forgotten (like Billy nearly becoming a male hooker) and even some I never even knew about (Sigurd's genital piercings - and yes that means more than one, scrapped designs for what would be Seibzehn's and Crecens' Omnigears and how Margie was originally going to be a playable character and fight using a bazooka and grenades she supposedly always had hidden under her dress)

Perfect Work is great. I love the tidbit they give us about the backstory (pre-Abel era, Deus, the Wave Existence...)....They explain it in a way that is much clearer than it is in the game.



For people interested, Xenosaga also had something similar.

Looking at that makes me /sadpanda for no actual new Xenogears, and that they stopped making Xenosaga after 3, and my non stop wish that they make more.

I found that same translation project like 2 days ago coincidentally. I love reading it, but really it just makes me mad at the way the second disc turned out and the lack of indication towards any remake or at least sequel. Xenogears is still my favorite RPG, and it really needs a good remake (hell, even if they didn't update graphics, just properly finish the second disc). Though I guess if FF7 with its million fanboys can't get a remake, then a properly finished Xenogears just isn't going to happen

It's probably never going to happen given how Monolith got the rights to make Xenosaga out of it, then subsequently got bought out by Nintendo. If Square ever managed to get it back, I'd love to see them make a PS3/360 remake.

The funniest thing about it is you know it would sell - even with a huge cut in funding and horrible production values for like half the game it's still so awesome that pretty much everyone that's ever played it liked it - if they actually remade it today, on the two major next gen consoles to reach a bigger audience and advertised it properly, with the proper funding it deserved (polish it up to HD, possibly re-use Crystal Tools to cut dev time, and get the same localization group that worked on the PSP version of FFT to take another look at the script) and sticking only to one game instead of trying to create a huge saga it would probably be the top selling RPG of whatever year it came out on.

It's kind of sad that one of the most amazing games ever got screwed over by an array of bad buisness decisions one after another :/

Remakes to FF6/7/Xenogears with FF13 graphics.... would sell fucking ZILLIONs. I don't know why they don't do it when it would just help to maximize profits.... bad business decisions if you ask me.

lol I have 2 copies of Xenogears..I end up buying the 2nd copy because i thought i lost the first one but found it later on so yeah guess i should sell one if its really that high..

Go die. The little that is mentioned in PW about pre-crash era is in Xenosaga one way or the other, just more detailled.

The only difference is the Eldrige that was replaced with Abel's ark, but you have all the same element onboard to create Xenogears.

We've been in this discussion so many times, Xenosaga would garner a lot better critique from me or anyone had it been named something else that's not Xeno-, like "Shion and KOS-MOS' excellent space adventure" or something.

As it is though, it's just a space opera with some Xenogears element blatantly placed on it so people won't forget that it's supposed to be connected to it...even though it really isn't.

And if you read any interview with Takahashi, you will understand where the idea for both games come from. Both stories are a retellling of the Genesis/apocalypse from a kabalist/gnostic perspective. The story are similar on every level, not just the "cameo".
