I had the....unfortunate opportunity to party with what had to be the GIMPEST Ranger I think I've ever seen for his level. This was a Level Sync 36 party in E. Ronfaure [S]. We were only managing chain 3 before having to rest to recover my MP (I was on WHM, and just Sigil refresh) because this guy's damage was SO abysmal. I'll let the screenshot speak for itself.

Yes, a Dodge Headband, Hume RSE gear, Dodge Earrings, ONE Strider Sword (he's /NIN) NQ Nomad's Mantle, the bow was a Lv. 20 Platoon Bow, and the arrows....Wooden Arrows....BUT HE HAS RAJAS LOL and that's not a Peacock Charm on him either, it's a Ranger's Necklace.

Assuming that's a sub, I never understood why people would gimp themselves so horribly just because they were only taking the job to 37. I could see not going insane to get the best gear (I didn't buy/camp o.kotes for my 37 ninja sub), but shit, get the minimum at least.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with that SAM. That's not gimp at all, it's just not geared to the limit with endgame drops that's all.
He has a 6-hit build which is already way more than most bandwagon SAMs, the Life Belt, well yeah Swift is nice but sometimes you can just get unlucky with drop rates, I know I have.
Nuevo+fumas+dusk gloves while retaining a 6hit is a good option for SAMs without a Hauby+1. If he has no other jobs he can or wants to use his Nuevo on the augments are prefectly fine.

The only thing I could point out is using STR ammo for TP, Smart Grenade or Tiphia Sting would be better.

I don't know if this person has many jobs or it's his first 75 or whatever but if he doesn't have Sea yet and isn't in a Sky linkshell for Haidate there is nothing wrong with his stuff.
I wish more SAMs would be geared like this instead of the bandwagon Samurai TPing in Domaru, Str rings and Warwolf Belt.
So nothing wrong with his Nuevo, Fowling, Life Belt, Ecphoria and Shinimusha Haidate. o.o"

Basically summarizing Buttons' post, at least that SAM has the consciousness to understand how to actually build a TP set, regardless of whether or not they have the best gear to maximize the potential. I'd say it was a new character or they just don't like endgame. Either way, they shouldn't be in this thread. My SAM looked much worse than that in the month or so after I hit 75.

There's nothing incredibly wrong with the Drg in the top screen, though he's using the polearm Skystrider you get from the SCNM trigger NMs. I don't know what the pants are that the War in the second screen is wearing, but that's the Nyzul GAxe he's wearing with that awesome earring of his.

Rest is for the most part shit though, but at least he has Dusk Gloves + Ruby Rings!

If you have SAM and don't have hagun I consider you gimp by my standards (I fluffed it up for all you complaining about what is gimp). Now unless he has another DD job that needs hauby+1, I would sell the hauby+1 and buy a hagun. It makes a big diffrence....

That being said, I choose to use Enkidu's leggings over Fuma Sune-ate because DEX+3 Att+4 is worth the Haste+1% I'd get from Fuma's and I'll probably never see Usukane Sune-ate ever.

There's nothing wrong with the skystrider. With the right jump setup, you're netting quite a bit of extra tp. That ring fails, though.
