Yea, our store goes through price changes every two weeks. It's impossible for us to get labels on in a reasonable amount of time. Sometimes it takes 3 days to get all of the prices relabeled because we don't have after-hour times for employees or stocking.

However, EVERY SINGLE CUSTOMER, that's right, EVERY SINGLE ONE, that takes an item off the shelf and tries to put it back will ALWAYS put it in the wrong spot without even trying (at least, that's the case in my hardware store). They wonder why sometimes items are mislabeled or hiding behind a wrong item. As a department head, I can't always find the misplaced items. The ones I do get are from customers I help that do it. Some really stand out, though. For things like drill bits or sawzall blades that all look the same, it's nigh impossible to tell without really looking if it's in the wrong place.

However, we never intentionally mislabel items. Like I said, sometimes new prices come out but they haven't been labeled; but if it's a price that's been changed for nearly 2 weeks without a new label, well then you have the right to bitch.

Depends on the store man. A lot of stores have the name of the item on the price tag so if it is in the wrong place you can tell.

When I shop I bring a notebook and tally the price of what I am ordering and then I add tax to the end of it and know exactly what I should be paying.

I'll double check the label on the price to the item to make sure I have the right thing, and at some stores you get robbed blind at the register. I don't bitch, I just don't go back and tell my friends to stay away. We tried going to the buy 4 less once and only bought item that were on special and ended up being charged twice as much when I got to the register because none of the specials were rung up as such...

Yea, our labels aren't really new. Our owner is a cheapskate and won't update anything. We still have shelving and hooks from the 1950's. It looks like shit if we don't repaint them.

But on our labels, the only way to tell if the item is correct is by cross referencing a SKU, MFG#, or UPC. The name of the product on the label isn't always good (like in my spraypaint area, we have mostly Rust-o-leum, so the label just says Rust-O and trails off, so I don't know what color or w/e it's supposed to be).

You are right, though. A lot of labels will explicitly show you the name of exactly what you are getting. After working at my store for nearly 5 years, I never take an item off a shelf at other retails without referencing a UPC or part number.

Its usually not done intentionally, and the majority of times (in my experience) wrong products in the wrong area is usually because customers randomly pick things up and lob them back anywhere when they don't want them and don't give a hoots about where they put it back - generally obvious when you see the product behind the one you picked up is not the same.

If you make the cashier aware, they will generally have someone check and reduce it for you. Some however may just say thats not an offer product and offer to exchange.

Either way if you don't mention it, your not giving them a chance to rectify it, which defines customer service imo.

Not sure what that quote is supposed to mean. Asians are the richest people?

At best buy / etc they are given a limit which they can knock down an item. Best buy is the BEST place to haggle because their service is fucking horrible. I fart around for an hour act like I'm pissed and go get the manager and they knock off huge amounts of money. I saved $150 on my monitor (which was a 3ed of the price..) because of this. I was acting like I was angry that no one was helping me, had cash IN MY HAND, and said I wanted a screen. When he told me the price I turned to walk out and hes like "wait wait, how about $150 off, the same as the the model next to it[ a 19' screen ]) Current screen = 25 inches and pure awesome. He threw in free hdmi cables and a wall mount on top of that.

Post ramble: You're fucking retarded not to haggle, they want your sale.
Lol, I don't work at Best Buy, but that's either a desperate store who has no volume during the day, or you might've been looking at a push-to-clear or clearance monitor. In that case it's better to slut it out of the store than have it sit on the shelf.

One of my friends worked at a local electronics chain and when a customer would ask him what he could do for them, he'd purposely sell them the piece of equipment he'd get the biggest kick back from. Basically he'd be like oh, I really recommend this Sony model, I can even knock off 75$, meanwhile he's getting not only the store commission, but also a kick back from sony for clearing out that certain model. Atleast in that store, it was all in their computer system how low they can go on each model.

I do my best to kill them with kindness too, to haggle you don't need to be a jackass, if you're told no who cares, it was worth a try.
@ First part: As a commissioned employee, yes, that's true. However, if we discount ANYTHING over 3% of the tag price we LOSE that higher commission ("spiff") on that item. For example, Toshiba right now has a $799 laptop that they've "spiffed" at $33. If you sell one, you get $33. Easy. Thing is, people who ask for deals and nothing else get jack because we don't want to discount. Lets say we do and bring the laptop down to $749 or $699... we would get $7.50 or $7 respectively. Why would we take a 4x cut to our pay so the customer saves a bit of cash? Now, that's where accessories come in. When you're buying electronics, always ask for a bag or a mouse or a pack of CDs with your purchase. I would GLADLY take money off those and leave the laptop at regular price.

@ Second part: This is also true. The people I voluntarily bend over backwards for are the people who are kind and don't make a big scene. The people I snuff are the people, like senoska, who come in with a chip on their shoulder acting like they're God's gift themselves. If any of us sense that we won't even give you the time of day.
