I did buy it hoping for a bit of a deeper storyline. I feel I got more out of the newest Bastok/Sandy/Windy S missions than I did this expansion. I know it's very early in it's release and people are spamming the shit out of various beastmen and ???s, but between going something like 0/60 on the stupid key item in Batallia Downs and broken ???s the first 2-3 days since it's release, it certainly left me feeling a little ripped off.
I'm not going to complain other than that though. Before they nerfed the hell out of CoP missions, I felt the same disappointment, so it's not like everyone is going to love absolutely everything that SE makes and expecting otherwise just sets anyone up for further disappointment. SE is allowed to fuck up, but they've generally shown the ability since ToAU came out to learn from mistakes and make it better later.
I enjoyed the expansion, but that was only because I really like Aldo >.>, Hes my favorite storyline character in this game by far.
because this is a new 3rd development team handling the project and they're not as familiar with FFXI as the teams that have been working on it for several years now..
If we're gonna have ACP for free, then we're not gonna have it at all, not because of a matter of profit or value of the product, but because of a matter of minimum fixed costs.. costs for hiring Matrix software team.. electricity, advertising, costs for designing new equipment models, etc.
I've no idea how FFXIs cost structure works.. but based on interviews it seems to be a per job basis for character equipement models, and cutscenes and the like...
and the development team probably has to deal with budget issues from top management, which is not easy and i guess they've come to a point where they've 'maximized' their potential per update with the current team.
The 3rd team was brought in to spice things up for FFXI a bit but not overlap the work of the current 2 teams.. i'd still assume the standby team is working on the next expansion, otherwise they'd not need to pull from a 3rd team to do these add-ons to begin with..
I am of the belief that SE made the mistake of releasing WotG too early.. as even if it matched the time inteval between zilart and CoP, the game was growing older to the point that it was slowing down or stretching out.. so the release schedules should have slowed down with it.. truly, it shows when content from ToAU was spilling over into WotG well into WotG's 'era', by about 3 update schedules...
so instead of making the mistake of introducing another expansion in April 2009 (which, if u go by the old expansion release schedule would be when a new expansion would have hit) before WotG content was done, this time they've slowed down the release of WotG content considerably so that it will probably end right before the next expansion hits... but in following with the old schedule, adding content from a 3rd team from the moment a new expansion should have released (based on the old schedule)..
if this is true, expect to see Shantotto Ascention in the June update and Kupo d'Etat in September.
We should also fairly expect them to announce a new full expansion for FFXI soon.. to hit either in Dec, or next April, which would mean they delay the expansion schedule by a full year.
I'll admit it....new body for my SMN was worth $10 on it's own![]()
It dosn't seem to matter what's put out, there will always be complaints and "ugh why didn't i get a "STR+99 body!" etc bs, i don't think there anything really wrong with the add-on (as it's rightfully called) i kind of enjoyed the small challange, body aren't even bad, they are much better alternatives then paying 8-10 mil for something of equal stats or close to it, my real question is tho:
Is there EVER somthing that won't be complained about? not everyone will be happy lol. such a bitter, bitter FFXI world!
Even if we sum up ACP as being the attempt of a rookie team to create a side-story/wrap-up to an aspect of FFXI, it still comes off that they did not even bother to communicate with more well established teams (our beloved ROZ/TOAU - COP/WOTG teams) on what not to do when you create a storyline/expansionette. Its as if they learned nothing from the mistakes of the past as a whole. Or perhaps they did and just decided to go forth with the grind anyway.
I know nothing about SEs budget for ventures like this but what I can safely assume is that ACP cost more than making such quests as "Three Men in a Closet", "Tango with a Tracker" or "Ode to the Serpents" and wasn't as funny as the first, exciting as the second or action-packed as the third. The saving grace of the entire venture is that shiny red treasure chest and the expansion armor reward.
I really hope they get back on the level of the quests mentioned above for the Shantotto / Kupo storylines because ACP imo was below the original Zilart storyline level. (SE improved leaps and bounds between Zilart and CoP in terms of telling a story)
should just cut to the chase and sell drings
I'd pay $10 for a D.ring.![]()
