I laughed out loud. There's fun hard, and then there's fake hard. Fun hard is like reading something huge and complex, like War and Peace. Fake hard is like reading Dick and Jane. In Klingon.
I agree with the statement, but I disagree that CoP was random and fake hard.
Pre-nerf CoP wasn't that hard if you weren't a peon. There was still some challenge to it yes, but it wasn't "OMG THE GAME IS CHEATING DID YOU SEE THAT? UGH THIS GAME HATES MY GROUP I SWEAR"
Let's say you are right. Everything sucks and your predictions were completely correct in every way.
What does that get you?
You are getting the same content we are getting. Is this an elaborate build-up to you quitting the game in a grand flourish?
Does it help you to sleep better at night if you can convince yourself that you were, are and always will be right?
You already know you are right, that is not in question. The game sucks and you already knew that. So you are playing a crappy game that you already knew was going to suck... doesn't that make you kind of a loser?
I think Everything in SE is too damn easy, that's why I'm very happy about the way SCNMs fight compared to the past. those guys were challenging and FUN. It revived the experience for FFXI. (Especially NMs like spongeshell or Scarsute or Nevermolt).
I missed the days when I dodged aggros constantly, and lived in Selbina. It really molded me as a player I am now.
I remember the days of promyvion when they were challenging as heck, but it was still fun. I just find fun out of touch challenges.
Basically my point is: People complain too much and SE listened to too many of the complaints and tried to fix it, only to find with more complaint, hence the "three laws of complaints" I posted earlier.
Edit: One of the reason why I felt CoP was epic was because of the challenges that it gave me when I finished CoP. I may bitched here and there about it, but I was frustrated, but in the end, I had fun, it was certainly a feeling of triumph to get it done.
WoTG needs some challeging BCs, I have some hope for it after the SCNMs. But whoever designed CoP missions if they don't have them making it now they need to get back to finish Wotg!
I always found this funny, because it was on Alla that I got all the strategies to easily beat CoP and I even volunteered to help people I didn't even know on Alla. And I always got some responses from people saying that my ideas were stupid because I didn't have enough RNG's or BLM's or whatever the elite and "required" jobs to beat a mission. These were the "elite" end-game players that hated Alla too.
Stupid people exist on every board.
I went 1/9 on Promy-Holla when it came out.. I still remember how I /rage'd after every lose, cursing at SE & my group.. However when I cleared it, the feeling was pretty awesome. I dunno if I'd want that back though, those 8 losses made me really think about quitting more than anything after that >_>.
I was VERY impressed with the SCNM, so impressed that I hope the NMs in the new end games are THAT challenging. Can you imagine if SE suddenly reprogram certain NMs in Dynamis to fight like the new SCNMs? Hooo boy. I'd love that. That would just make things deliciously more fun.
Back in the first year I played FFXI, I was in the LS that LOVED to do ENMs and climbed promy. it used to be a bi-weekly thing for people to do. These guys were so damn good at it, even though farming for Animas pratically felt like another major quest to do. (That is, this is when they were Exclusive, and that you couldn't buy or sell them, and EVERYONe needed a set for the ENMs or Promy.) We also helped a handful of people to finish their Promy, and I remember the day when we all finally made it to Lufaise meadows, it was a hell of a celebration.I went 1/9 on Promy-Holla when it came out.. I still remember how I /rage'd after every lose, cursing at SE & my group.. However when I cleared it, the feeling was pretty awesome. I dunno if I'd want that back though, those 8 losses made me really think about quitting more than anything after that >_>.
You know what else is fun? Beating them with like 4 people. There's also a degree of skill/challenge involved, especially when you compare it to random pickup groups that'll wipe with the full 6 despite having every conceivable helpful item/job combination.I remember the days of promyvion when they were challenging as heck, but it was still fun.
Could probably even do it with 3.
Because we as a community can work to make changes and effect future products SE gives us. How many game changes have been made by player feedback? How much has this game evolved from us communicating what NEEDS to be fixed (yes I know there still is alot to be done)?
If the playerbase sits back and takes this crap, then you and everyone that continues to play will continue to recieve this crap.
If a majority of the playerbase doesnt buy the next addon or RMT item from SE, and every message board and "registered site" tells SE this is NOT what we want in the future, then we have a better chance of them stopping these rediculous excuses for content and going back to giving us true EXPANSIONS
I want an evolving game that keeps me excited and challenged and sitting back and taking this crap they fed us through ACP is NOT the way to get it.
Stand up, boycott the next add on, and start pushing back to SE in every interview we have. Let's get our fucking game back.
Power to the people motherfucker. /em raises fist.
Aye, fight and you may die. Run, and you'll live... at least a while. And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willin' to trade ALL the days, from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take... OUR FREEDOM!
Sadly Neosutra, I don't think SE will ever make an expansion that will be as challenging or epic as CoP ever was, because that many people complained about it. I was pretty damn ecstatic when I heard that you had to climb Delkfutt's tower with level 30 cap, it would feel like doing mission 3-3 again (If I remember right). (I haven't been able to do this because A: I can't afford, yes, I seriously can't afford to spend 10 bucks on an expansion, and B:, I'm on break from FFXI)
frankly, when I heard about the upcoming add-ons, I expected it to be a series of mission that you could finish in a period of few days, with a nice reward at the end. (Let's face it, I almost shat a brick when I heard about the three new bodies, and Still couldn't make up my mind on which I want.) and it's pretty close to what I expected, only it's a little bit shorter than I thought. the only disappointment that is that you could get it done in less than 24 hours, THAT really surprised the crap out of me when I read that people already got it done on the night it came out.
Well, looking at ACP as objectively as possible, and comparing it to the last fully completed storyline expansion:
ToAU: 48 missions, 8 fights, 6 quests, item reward at the end, $30 release price.
ACP: 12 missions, 4 fights, 3 quests, item reward at the end, $10 launch price.
Missions/Dollars ratio: ToAU: 1.6 missions/dollar
ACP: 1.2 missions/dollar
Fights/Dollars Ratio: ToAU: 0.27 fights/dollar
ACP: 0.4 fights/dollar
Quests/Dollars Ratio: ToAU: 0.2 quests/dollar
ACP: 0.25 quests/dollar
Each mission progression has 1 item that you are rewarded for the completion of the scenario.
So, in regards to "Was the expansion worth it?" question that has been thrown around and comparing ACP to the last completed storyline objectively, yes, yes it was.
I wear my relic pants because it's HQ. I don't have marduk or oracle, and I'd wear the former but not the latter due to ugliness. Seriously, your leg option is practically worthless when you have your avatar out. Note that I said practically, there are some merits/disadvantages/yadayadyada. It's not groundbreaking though
Go play mario ,Is easy.
The harder somethin is to beat/obtain, The funner it is to me,and the better i feel when completed.
ACP can burn for all i care, all this new content to make new players happy and pay SE more money is shit,
Should focus on making the game more challenging, instead of making it okay for everyone to achive the same with ease.
Hard is FUN.
New content that takes us away from easy to kill/hard to claim Kings, yes plz
None of this was promised for this mini-expansion/scenario (w/e the fuck u wanna call it). Not sure why you assumed, especially given SE's track record over the years. All that stuff listed was advertised to the player base before the expansions were released.
When ACP was announced to be released with the latest update, everyone was surprised how fast it came out. That should have been an indicator that it wasn't going to be this huge fancy, in-depth expansion that is comparable to RotZ, CoP, ToAU, and WotG. As a rule of thumb, hope for the best but expect the worse.
Good attitude Valisk, and you will continue to recieve what you expect.
Is no one here a fighter? Would everyone here walk right into the gas chambers if placed in a line and asked nicely?
You really dont have to take this guys.
You CAN effect the future of what you receive.
If everyone here (except 2-3 people) thinks this was crap, and the only debate is semantics about what you were expecting or how someone shouldnt be offended at buying crap, then we can agree that we CAN get better products from SE.
Do something about it goddamnit. Dont fucking roll over.
Well I certainly wasn't making love to those Mandies!
