Didn't help that almost all the rest of the expansions content revolved around finishing promyvion. Can't finish all of them or have friends that are having trouble completing them? Have fun with bibiki bay because that's all you were getting until you finished those moronic 30 caps
The night the missions were playable our biggest issue was climbing and not leaving people behind in the chaos.. :<

Part of the problem was (and to a smaller extent still is) that when you finally beat some of the harder CoP missions, you don't want to go back and repeat them for others because while you think the hellish difficulty is fun... it's really not, because you mystically discover that you don't want to do it again, or that the potential setup isn't what you want to see, or you don't care about the people in question enough.

Memories are making the shit that was pre-nerf CoP seem a lot better than it really was.

I remember the best way to deal with the fourth and final floor was to send a THF with PD and Flee ready. You know, aggro all the mobs, with PD up and flee the rest to the zone line while everyone was following closely. it worked all the time.

To name a few, you know, the things no one thought it's worth doing anymore:

    Promyvion ENMs
    Eco-Warriors
    Garrisons

Oh those were the days, especially when I did Eco-Warriors for bastok within the first couple of weeks of playing FFXi, and back then, woo, that was a doozy. I miss my little Warrior 25 kitty back then.
I think theres a lot of this stuf atm, and the problem is that there is no new players anymore.
    Mario always been cake -.-

Then you have the group "Oh..CoP is np, my group beat soandso very easily." So you ask them to help, they say No..so you say "Well if it was so easy and you're all such masters, it should be np helping us out then."

This is why even the director of CoP said it was a pretty bad expansion and challenging..it changed a lot of the game...but the mission design was hell to the point people had to deny their true feelings about it.

This. One thousand times, this. Every time I hear some jackass whine about the "nerfs" to CoP, I remember this nonsense. I'll praise CoP for the story, but not for the fights. I like a challenge, but a reasonable one. I did CoP before and after the adjustments and I'm not rosey-hued enough with the liquor of nostalgia to think for a damned moment that I enjoyed the misery of the original Promyvion fights or the bullshit of the Sin Hunters (who, for the record, were responsible for my entire CoP static quitting the game)

LOL at this thread but i want to post my final impression on this expasion.

+good opening which gets you interested to do the rest of mission
-Terrible method on obtaining the Items requested (Kill XX amount of Too weak Mob for key it or drop) just to lengthen the expasion.
+/-Started easy and to WTF were they thinking.
-Have to re-obtain the Key Item if lost BC with up to 30 Minute for Final BC
    (again to lengthen the expasion).
-Mid CS leading to Final battle were just forgettable.
-NPCS We know, Love had absolutely zero effect to story they were added just for sake of it Like shantoto,Prince Trion etc.
-One worse Final BC Designs seriously what were they thinking? alienating Jobs like DNC,PUP,NINJA and Blue.
    - The Final Boss Seed Crystal reason that he couldn't kill everyone was most retarded reason
    +Good ending for Aldo
+/-very good to terrible Armor choices for Jobs.

Was it worth 10$ i would say yes as it's first mini expasion and i hope the Team will listen to peoples complain and make next expasion more friendly to players.

The more challenging and epic the situation is, the more people will remember it. Completing CoP was and still by far the most challenging task to do in all of FFXI. I'm glad many sense of challenges into CoP despite all the nerfs.

I did my CoP in a static group, most of them (from 2-3 til finish), back then it was just a random group of people that came together through shouts, and we stuck together to the end, and became close friends. The more challenigng yet best points for me were climbing that damnable mountain in 3-3 (which is just so deliciously ironic, because the first time I did it, I had SO much trouble, and now I love doing it), fighting the shikaree mithras in 5-3, and of course omega/ultima in 6-4, and finally the dzeis, and of course the big bad daddy himself.

Don't get me wrong, I was very lucky to had such an awesome group back then (big shout to the player named "Thissucks" back in phoenix for this!), and it's incredibly hard to maintain a static because it required certain dedication effort from everyone to be able to stick together, and I've seen a LOT of static break down during CoP missions, even now. Despite this, I still stand by the fact that having a good static put togehter is the best way to do it.

It's a pity that I doubt SE could ever top CoP, Ever, or can even come close. I wish they would, but if they ever do it again, there will certainly be a lot of people raising hell becuase they don't want to go through the trouble of doing cap fights even though right now, doing cap fights should be so damn ridiculously easy at this point.

You cannot deny that the introduction of levelsync ultimately turned things around for all those capped fights in CoP. Why in my day, I had to, ramble ramble ramble.

It's no understatement to say CoP, combined with the ridiculous amount of botting back in the day, drove a huge portion of the player-base to quit. Shit was ridiculous, memories tend to paint a rosy fucking picture. FFXI never really recovered the amount of players it lost during CoP, more or less just sustained it's current numbers thanks to ToAU.

EDIT: CoP fucking sucked donkey balls besides its' story.

I think if CoP had shipped with level sync it would have sucked distinctly less.

Most Definitely. the BIGGEST excuse that people wouldn't do CoP missions were the fact that they can't afford or have no room the carry all the extra gears to do the level capped mission. Had THAT been around when CoP was released, I'd bet that so many people would get them done faster.

To enter a battlefield as a party, only one player need fulfill the necessary conditions. Upon that player's successful entry, all other party members may then participate regardless of their registration status or current scenario progress. However, only players that meet the entry conditions may reap the resulting rewards.
    From the update page.

Discuss! Who feels they got jipped now?

Also: Before anyone says we've known about this since the update, we didn't know this the day we could pre-order ACP. No one else brought it up in the thread so why not now!

Meh. I'm mehish about it. that's like being able to participate in CoP or any other expansion battles without having the expansion itself. if you get what I mean.

I went 4 times back for friends from promys to the omega fights. It was difficult but everytime it was fun and a blast. Of course I woulndt have done it with a PUG, because lets face it, back then it would have been an nightmare to go with a PUG through it.

I remember my first Diabolos fight on 4-2, omg it was such a nightmare, but we got the things right on the 2. try with some few changes of tactics. Not to mention the hard ultima/omega fight with just 5 instead of 6 people, brd nin whm blm rng, ended up winning at 44 min and 59 sec, 1sec before time out, it was hell of a fun to accomplish something like that.

If you could access sea back then, it meant something. You had the skill and friends to put yourself through all CoP to get that access.

I've done airship on like, 4 separate occasions, Pot fight multiple times, promies multiple times...for my friends.
I'd never help some random douchecock with those fights, I hate 95% of the player base of this game.

If no one wanted to help you with them, you just had shitty friends.
