So far, I've neither been thrilled nor annoyed at the missions, other than wiping on the FeiYin BC due to a bad strategy and having to get the shimmery thingies again. That was annoying, but other than that, I'm enjoying it, I guess. Farming the low level beastmen wasn't too bad. Got most of the drops in ~10-15 kills, some on the first kill.

It's not zomgfantastic or anything, but it's worth the $10 to me so far. I'll likely get the next ones, too.

I legitimately want to know who will actually pay for the next add on after this let down. And to be honest, I think alot of the people dissapointed here will STILL buy it due to SE tagging on another in game item or bonus.

I think people will be more cautious in ordering the following add-ons. Considering there is no limitation on quantity, and the bar has been set for what will be reasonably expected now, I would assume far more people will wait until after the content is released to make the decision. I think many people were also afraid of being 'left behind' if they waited, which because of how everything was set up is completely not an issue (mechanics of the final fight aside).

If there is a cool ingame item, or respectable repeatability, or a unique BCNM in a fiture add-on, I wouldn't be surprised if sales stayed high. Many people play the game to do silly crap like collect new items or do silly BCNMs, myself included. Plus, a Moogle/Crazy Bitch Taru BCNM would be very fun.

Realistically, I am probably getting my hopes too far up though.

I don't remember anyone of importance complaining about how hard COP was.. In fact I remember alot of people bitching about them making it easier.

Neo's not being whiny, you're just taking any opportunity to label anyone that has anything negative to say about FFXI as such. He's being honest, and choosing not to sugar-coat his sentiments with "but yeah I like my new PLD body " and "the last fight had cool music!". This was marketed as a mini-expansion, its length was grossly exaggerated prior to its release and it should've simply been a new quest line instead, and this is coming from someone that actually did quite enjoy playing through it simply because I got to experience new content with friends.

Actually, it was marketed as an add-on scenario that didn't add areas, new spells/abilities/jobs/etc...wasn't exaggerated to the point it was going to be "of CoP length and quality", people just instantly assumed it was when they heard it will focus on story and got disappointed.

The 14 bucks for a movie analogy doesnt work. You pay 14 bucks because the movies have multi million dollar budgets. If SE had spent 100 mil on creating this expansion THEN your analogy would be correct.

Worst thing about the new scenarios is that it puts off any plans for a "true" expansion especially when SE finds out these turn out to be profitable. Why make a true expansion when these cost less for SE to make, sell equally as well and gives them more opportunities to milk the playerbase?

It really isnt even about the 10 dollars because every company has jumped on the pay to play bandwagon but if you take ACP and put it next to some of the old-school quests that have been in the game forever it doesnt even compare. Examples?

A Timely Visit (one of the better quests in the game)
Mithran Sin Hunters Arc + Battles (fun tack-on to COP)
Serpent Generals Storyline (arguably better than a majority of the TOAU story)
S.O.B Brigade (Those tarutaru you just love to hate)
Mannequin Quest (Necromancers oh my...)
Three Men in a Closet (SE forays into uncharted territory)

If these quests that came with normal updates could be so popular why couldn't the P2P content in ACP have at least hit this mark? Hell they could have just sold the treasure chest access and the 3 body pieces for 10 bucks and saved themselves alot of development time. The grindfest combined with the lackluster story (compare ACP's opening with COP or hell even Zilart and you can visually see the nosedive)

The story buff in me was very disappointed if for no other reason than the story itself was boring and uninteresting.... the one plot twist not even that interesting. SE has and can do better than this.

I think the Serpent Generals arc of quests could have been bundled better for 10 bucks.

I was going to buy the add-on anyway because I wanted some resolution to the whole Aldo plotline since it has annoyed me for years. The good in-game item just makes me feel like my $10 wasn't just a one time cash blow. If I actually manage to get a decent augment item in the process, it will make it all the sweeter.

I do agree in hoping that SE really steps up with future add-ons. As for 'never getting another expansion', I really can't trust anything SE says for their long term plans. Their long term business and FFXI models are far too fluid to trust anything they say 100%.

I don't think SE can do any wrong in his book, lol. It unfortunately took me to be BAMMED to remove the rose coloured SE goggles I was wearing, and I find it very sad when I was having a discussion with all my friends who chose to stay in FF about their mini-expansion about how disapointed they were aside from the end game reward.

Imo this should have just been an update, who cares if it's not part of the storyline of WotG or anything, they keep updating ToaU's content through wings so this shouldn't be anything diff either. Oh well at least people understand what they'll be getting in the future.

I remember hearing the devs saying it might take a month for people to do, and the hardcore people could probably do it within 2 weeks, but then when I checked out the thread I hear people finished it within 24hrs The disconnect between the devs and the players in that regard are sad if they really thought it was going to take a month to do, however this is the same Square Enix that said "ToaU is going to be focused on solo and low level content" and nothing was below lvl55 and solo NPCs were completely ignored.

And thats where I think you're getting your differing opinion from this is lol I don't know about everyone else, but most everyone I play the game with doesn't give a shit about the storylines. Spam enter through cutscenes etc.

I'd be more happy if I could skip the silly tower climb/quests and just pay SE 10$ for the customizable body. It's the main reason I bought the add-on, not for the story line.

Whereas if they make it about a storyline, then it's not paying for gear. Even if the storyline is a bit thin. /shrug

I dunno, this post/thread seems like a fancy way of Neo saying "I told you so." So a bunch of people agree with you and think it sucks. You all keep threatening to leave and yet you're still here. Just quit then and do us all a favor?

I dunno, I get so tired of people whining and telling me 'dead game' etc when there's still things I like to do and want to do in this game.

What I figure is that by the end of these three add-ons there will pretty much be a full expansion's worth of material added in between updates and whatnot, at which point we'll have paid normal price, or a little over, for an expansion. I'm sure one mini will probably have a lot more included with it than $10 would be "worth," and it'll end up being pretty standard in the end.

Not sure why they chose to go this route this time around, maybe they wanted to get some stuff out to us and other stuff was taking too long, and it couldn't be split up "evenly" or something. I dunno.
