why do people like xenogears so much?

Back then, Xenogears improved nearly every aspect of rpg gaming. The script, the 3d graphic, the battle system, and the story. Every elements were in place to create something that would eventually degenerate into a severe case of nostalgia.

Compared to next gen games, Xenogears' translation is pretty bad, the graphic look bland (like most old 3d), the gameplay is kinda slow (you get a random encounter every 2 fucking steps), the villain is your typical villain with a god complex.

I'm not saying it's unplayable, but to someone who didn't play it back then, a lot of things that were great for us will become turn off. They won't get attached to the character as much as we did, and because of this, won't care about the emotionals twists that made us love the game.


That said, Xenogears is freakin awesome. It's definitively the most massive jrpg ever made, the music is still epic (you can't go wrong with Mitsuda), the gameplay was challenging without being cheap (except for Ramsus/miang tag team) and the story was perfect for its time.

I think you had to go back on the ship to get it or something, so it's possible you never got it.

I would like to say I remember that name, but I don't. :S. I was usually hanging around "theory" thread, and never posted much in other part of the forum. Actualy, I don't really remember anyone from that board, except for the poster who were both on gamefaqs and xenosaga official board.

I was using the name ArchmageRaist on both forum. I dropped the official board when FFXI was released because it was getting slow, but I stayed on gamefaqs during the whole "saga".
