I remember doing Apollyon NW and our ls leader who always played in first person didn't see faffy coming up behind him and he came back from a pull w/ it following him. Good times.

I use both.
1st Person:
Walking around places when there is no aggro like towns or low level zones because its easier to control one handed and I can watch TV or something instead of staring at the screen.
When I'm tanking a short monster I also find it easier to use first person because my character doesn't block its attack animations.
3rd person:
Walking around while avoiding aggro or trying to find something
Any other battle situation
I'm sure there are other times I swap without even thinking about it but those are the main ones.
Only times I go in 1st person is by accident, I can see it useful to kite running backwards, but the camera resetting to a "neutral" height when you blink really sucks.
Why the fuck would you switch to 1st person to climb the attohwa mountain?
3rd person with widescreen = win
3rd person camera view
3rd person, 1st to turn around quickly if I'm running away from something.
Oh, if they implemented Mirror's Edge style first person I'd be happy...! Imagine being MNK ...
Wow, I can't believe any of the Taru haven't mentioned this...
It's pretty much impossible for us to use first person. You use first person, you get lost forever in some tall grass. You literally cannot see a GOD DAMN thing if there's any sort of shrubbery in your vicinity.
3rd person fulltime... well almost. Chocobo riding is fun in first person.
3rd person almost exclusively.
3rd Person all the way, I dont think I can ever use 1st person for this game I dunno what it is. I just cant.
Third person 98% of the time, first person for turning without moving.
Definitely Third-Person user here. I swing my camera constantly while I move, or even when I tank (though first-person can be exhilarating, it's harder to time casts and such). I hate not knowing what is around me, or where PCs are standing, etc.
In my experience, the people who use first-person often are the ones that aggro random shit when you REALLY don't need aggro and they can't navigate the map in a very efficient manner. Somehow, these people are also the ones who sing the praises of using a controller, even if on the PC...
there's a third person view!?
3rd person unless i need to screenshot something i am looking at.
3rd person ftw, unless I'm really close to a wall, like 4th floor when I fight turtle in the corner.
Both, probably first-person more often.
I didn't start off as a thief, but I definitely find it easier to line up trick attacks in 1st person.
I definitely randomly switch between 1st and 3rd randomly. Also go to 1st person when I'm on auto-run and am trying to align myself to a specific point so I don't have to turn.
I play brd almost exclusively, so 3rd person ftw (widescreen too)
edit: 1st person feels too much like oblivion or fallout3 (which I didn't like either), I think rpgs are best played 3rd person.
