Why would you want to limit the power of government

Limiting the power of government seems to have its intention set on the situation where groups that have interests opposite to yours who have taken over large portions of government and preventing said groups from taking severe or even moderate action against your interests. However if the groups who have interests opposite to yours have too much influence, then there is little to stop them from giving the government the power to act against your interests. So if this group, for example, has more economic power than you, far too much, then you are essentially powerless to stop them from modifying the government to fit their interests, the only thing to stop them being you gaining just enough influence to resist them.

The solution, some would say, is eliminating government since it is a centralized form of power. Like leaving an unmanned tank in the middle of a city for someone who manages to get the keys to use it. However, the problem with this is, if a certain group begins to centralize and obtain substantial amounts of power, then there will come a time when they will desire to maintain this advantage, or fear losing their status, in this case they require a powerful institution that can maintain the status quo, and the government is exactly the kind of institution to do so. One need look no further then the creation of the Constitution to see a light example of that. So if the existence of a government benefits any one group, and this group happens to have the resources to summon one, then there is no doubt that a government will resurface. If those with the most power do not want a government then there may likely be none, but if those with the most power desire a government then it will likely exist. So it seems government is inevitable and the only real limit to government power is... power.
