Question about JoL tanking

Ill be tanking JoL tonight on RDM/NIN but i had a quick question about gear choices. I have a full fire resist build and also a full MBD (well close to full) set. Should i bring the fire set even if i dont get barfire and fire carol in time or would it be better to just stick with the standard magic build?

Don't bother, if your MDB set is good his spells will be extremely managable, keep ballads on fulltime.

MDB should be enough. Just have your WHM Shellra V and Barspell whichever element JoL is on. The only thing you should really need to worry about is untimely astral flow and slow pullers from the add party.

That is my current MDB set, I plan on trying to get a resolute belt and a HQ earring before the fight tonight and thats about it

Anything with an HP bar and a magic defense build can tank JoL, seriously.

edit: This reminds me, last night our JoLs sucked ass because our tanks kept getting drawn in which has never happened to us before. Any reason for why that could have happened?

There's no reason to use two Chainsaws once you've built up sufficient hate, and why MDB+4 over MDT-5%? The latter will be superior in his situation aside from the MP loss.

Re: Marcicus, I had that happen during one of the first times I tanked JoL, I think I got just close enough that he wanted to pull me in for tentacle rape love, didn't happen again after that fight though.

Well just a update, tanked JoL with no problem at all really besides a bad timed Astral Flow. Firega3 landed and then 3x shark 2h and i had a nice dirt nap. Aside from that i had solid hate the full fight aside from a couple times that i slowed down on hate because my fingers started to get sore lol. All in All im sure solo tank wouldnt be a problem but co tank is a nice thing to have in case of that bad timed astral flow.


Also, Kongolo, i just subbed that gear set in when i was about to take a -ga spell, this is my normal casting gear:
