Oh d'oh, hadn't thought about that. Just trying to think of ways to use some of the members we have with movement+. I guess that's where we'll be putting a few of the melee that we can't support on Odin, then.

Just a quick "In-Case", DNC is totally out of place here, ya? Versus Whm in the same slot.

Whm is a much better choice, dnc can probably hold a fomor easily enough though.

Odin doesn't give tips, this thread is a lie!

OP: If you're capable of telling your group when to back off of Odin, SAM should be no problem.

really 1 person is all you need for formors, a rdm/thf with powder boots, nothing else, it is almost imposible to die if you have 7 pairs of boots and your tank can hold the adds for about 5 seconds.

you see summoning /say diolog > use powder boots > wait for delay from powder boots > diaga adds > get as far away as you can, when those boots wear off use /ja flee and equip another set of powder boots> when that flee wears off the next pair of boots will be ready and you can use them. in emergencys you can now use a hermies quncher and equip yet another pair of powder boots to use when that wears off (so at this point even if things go horibly wrong you have 10(first boots) +30(flee) + 30(second boots) + 60 (hermies drink) + 30 (thrid boots)...

if you can not do in even the worst case 10,000 damage in 2minutes 40 seconds, you need to rethink your damage team, generally the only rough one wil be if adds pop before a 25% mark and everyone needs to run in while doing damage. You should shoot for adds being out for around 1 minute or less, a totally reachable goal if your rng save barrage for this.

I have done this 6 odins now, only came close to dieing once, when i did something very stupid ("oh these are far enough back i can stop and cure someone")

Rdm is even more awesome for this now, with their new longer durration buffs, I spent a good part of the fight previously just repeatly buffing myself to make sure I would always be ready, but with composure and its 15 minute stoneskin it frees up a lot more time.

keep up blink stoneskin phalanx shock spikes protect shell barparalyze barblizard regen refresh and youre golden

killed our last odin with 22 and we had 3 weakened rangers due to an ill timed ga+10k needles. Not the absolute cleanest run, but we had like 5 minutes left

Could go as low as 14 I think before the need for relics, but it would require everyone to be very well geared and extremely focused/informed on the fight. 20 is pretty safe with well geared people but when using lower numbers rng (and to some extent blu) really shine over other options because they don't require curing except on 10k needles or randomly pulling hate.

    For 14 I would take

    Pld/nin
    Pld/nin
    Whm/Sch
    Rdm/whm
    Brd/whm
    <random DD>

    Cor/rng
    Rng
    Rng
    Rng
    Brd
    Whm/sch

Rdm (kiting adds so pick w/e SJ you prefer)
Thf (TH4 and backup add kiting)

For the 6th spot in tank party you want to fill it with a DD, preferably blu but smn can also provide SSga and keep up damage, sam rng cor all good options also.

5 of our 6 Odins have been with 24 or less, we have done it with 18, 19 and 20 people on our last 3 Odins.

Edit: With Excal/G horn you would probably be able to get it down to 12, possibly 11 by taking out 1 rng, brd in rng pt and the random DD in tank party, anything lower than that and 10k needles doesn't become realistic to survive because your kiter will need to be out of range of it. Brd and whm could probably sub /smn though to help soak up damage.

One problem I find with BLU/THF on Odin is that hate tends to shift between tanks. When this happens, it requires the BLU to run around to the other side before attacking again. I don't know if there are any ways around this, but I thought this is important to point out.

    Bumping this for a question.

Going to be doing our first fight tonight with about 21. When he spawns fomors, are they tier'd? Like say his 90-60% spawn, is that all the fomors from tier1? is 50-20% tier2 fomors? etc.

dunno what u meant by tier.........

but 2 sets of 3 formor will pop from 89~19%

last set will pop at 9%

if you dont get all 3-6 fomor from 89~19%, you will get the remainders all at 9%

    eg1, the normal scenario: 89% pop 3, 59% pop 3, 9% pop 3
    eg2, the unlucky scenario: 79% pop 3, 9% pop 6
    eg3, the "ohshit" scenario: 9% pop 9

Is that possible? Like can anyone verify that having actually happened? I know back-to-back is definitely possible, and back-to-back-to-back (30% > 20% > 10%) is probably possible too and would suck, but can someone confirm the "rest pop at 9%" thing?

i have yet to experienced it myself, but from some readings and research before i started my einherjar LS(1 year ago), i remembered someone talking about it on BG. i can try to find the source again if you want, but i think thats possible.

prolly someone here have got this scenarios before and can share? :D

i personally is curious as well, seeing 9 fomors at 9% will be so funny XD

It actually wouldn't be that bad, since the last 10% is the fastest 10% and it's just as easy to tag 9 mobs as it is to tag 3 (if you use 1 kiter). I think worst would be what I said above, 30% > 20% > 10%, because there's no recovery time for your kiter, plus you have to coordinate the 25% 10k needles and the 10% zant triggering during that time.

Edit: Totally unrelated but nowhere else really to post it and not worth its own thread, but I did some calculations after last Odin and my preliminary assessment is that the damage taken by Zant using /heal is 40% of max HP (or current HP?) which can be further mitigated by shell. The numbers worked out for that based on the damage I took with shell 4, but would have to try a few more ways to be sure.

From my own experiences so far the 3 sets of Fomor always spawn seperate from eachother. 1 set between 89%~59%, 1 set between 49%~19% and 1 set always at 9%.

Question on Odin. I have spoken with Richardd in PMs about this, and I wanted to ask it to the general population.

Can NIN/DRK (/RDM) tank Odin as well as or better than PLD? Rich stated basically just to have the OhShit macro rdy for AoEs and the rest is easy business, due to a generally slower attack rate, and no double attack.

Anyone else use NINs for this?

you probably dont even need it for AOE's lol. its generally weak. just have it when he strips you of your buffs :D.

but im wondering if anyone else has input on it as well. i hope im not the only nin that has ever solo tanked odin. (or made aegis/excal's look silly on them until they reached cap as well)

people that had 6 fomors at 6% was just a mis-conception,because if they spawn at 19% they will go back and depop at 9%. What must have happened that other fomors spawned someone aggroed the previous one before depop and you get 6 instead of 3.

its critical to have the 19% fomors closer to tanks to depop faster, or to pull them far and then once the 9% fomors spawn , you claim them fast enough before the 19% fomors go back.

Double-checking, since my current ls's first Odin is in a couple days. Sushi or Meat for Melee DDs who won't have a BRD? Looking at War and Sam in this department atm. No Salvage pieces, or Ebodies, but well-geared otherwise. What about for RNGs with Brd&Cor support? I've heard people say both, and I've only ever gone on Rdm or Whm myself so I haven't a clue.

You don't need brds for DD parties but it does help. the key to Odin is to do constant damage and mage support. If a tank dies it can suckup time. I suggest sushi if this is your 1st Odin. Icarus Wings, Echo Drops, Poison potions are a must. Call out percentage so mages know when to run in and absorb 10K needles and to rebuff DD's. Kiting adds isn't hard, but if you're feeling uncomfortable buy flee boots for your rdm/nin.
