PS2 Version discontinued in some states..

So, like 2 weeks ago I went to a game stop to try to buy FFXI for PS2 so i can fish on it for Ebisu or be able to lay back on couch while fishing, but couldnt find it... asked counter, no copies.

2 days ago went to different gamestop, no copies, asked counter..

she told me its labeled as discontinued and that id have to go to another state to get it or check gamestop.com

Amazon has jacked price up extremely high to 80-100$ lol...

Is this finally the end of new PS2 players in the USA? Hopefully SE will follow suit in JP soon ._.

Yeah, the last two collections have been PC/360 only, it's been phasing out for awhile.

This, I just picked up a copy from my local gamestop (it was in the backroom, not in the store floor, or on display my friend said). So I'm guessing they pulled it all from the shelves except for PC/360 etc.

The last release (that I know of) was when WotG came out. It's always been limited to find since CoP.

and considering SE's own site isnt listing a place to buy a PS2 ver anymore, i think that kinda is considered reliable, and even the latest news post didnt mention PS2 as shown above.

Amazon is only place i found it, newegg and such no copies either, and amazon prices = fuck that.

I know when I was working at Gamestop, CoP/ToAU went from active to delisted/discontinued very shortly after their releases compared to other titles (ToAU I believe showed up discontinued within a week or two of release). There's a pretty limited market for those, so they don't tend to print as many.

I would imagine the collection packages probably stick around a bit longer, but I doubt they're printing hundreds of thousands of those for PS2.

I always thought it's been discontinued for years.......One of those items that are only released in a certain amount. I preordered the HDD set from gamestop when it came out and bought another from BJ's about 5 months later and havent seen one in the last however many years.

You can still randomly find that stuff (old standalone expansions, etc.) once in a while, usually it's just because it's been sitting there on the shelf for ages collecting dust, or had been buried in the stockroom, and so forth.

I even saw the FFXI/HDD bundle at a walmart as recently as a year ago!

I may have a spare at home seeing as how my brother used to play FFXI as well on PS2. I will certainly look when I get off of work for you.

God, I want to go buy one of those right now. I remember bringing that big box home in 04 with my giant ass logitech keyboard/controller combo, that was amazing in theory but absolutely terrible. Definitely a feeling I'd like to have again when it comes to FFXI. Setting it up and reading the manuals - so much fun!

On topic, here in MI it's very rare to find one where I live, Meijer has one and the gamestop in one of the malls has one - both have been there for years and haven't been sold, not much demand.
