    Car Problem, fuuuck help

I have a 2002 Audi 1.8T A4 automatic transmission. Today I was driving on the highway, not going any higher than 80, and i notice that when the car switched gears it kind of skipped, like it would switch over once and then apparently seem to do it again 1 second later. I just started my car for the first time afterwards and the check engine light came on. Does this sound like a transmission problem? What else could it be? Any ideas. I am afraid I am about to pay out my ass for something.

you better hope this is not a transmission problem, otherwise it would be like $2000.

Check your tranny fluid. Then have it checked. I remembe Audi's in the past having transmission problems. But that was years ago though.

I hope your warranty hasn't expired because it may be the transmission like everyone said. If you can't take it to a dealership, you could do what I used to do. Look up a high school or vocational school that has an auto tech class and make a deal with the teacher. At the very least you'll wind up having to pay for any materials/fluids/parts needed, but save a ton since you don't have to pay for labor.

I got the car used with 80k miles on it 3 months ago. The guy said he "checked and replaced all the fluids," he better not have just mean anti freeze, windshield wiper, and oil. Do they usually check for transmission? I am past the 30 day warranty as well, think i could still go back to him to try to hold him responsible worst case scenario?

=/ i know. i was going to get the warranty but it was like 2gs for 2-3 years or something. i was already paying more for the car than i wanted to and needed a car badly as i was without one for 2 months and was relegated in my house. sigh.

Did you buy the car from a used car lot? Was it an official Audi used car place or was it some standalone used car place? Check your state's lemon laws and see if you qualify...you could probably use it as leverage against the seller. Or did he specifically say "as is" at the time of purchase? Is "as is" written down anywhere?

The shifting is electronically controlled in Audi's, you may get lucky and it will only be a faulty sensor.

Worst case is if they pulled a fast one on you like sawdust in the tranny. But that only takes out the noise, and that isn't your problem.

How many miles have you put on the car? was this from a dealership? If so look up the lemon laws in your country. your transmission is slipping which means it is going to go bad. I would take the car back and bitch at the guy for selling you a car with a faulty transmission. If he refuses, go to small claims court!

It was a from a used car dealership, i have put 3.5k miles on it, at most. I dont push this thing at all either, dont even really use the typtronic (sp?). I shall get it looked at tomorrow, hopefully itll last 50 miles home.

Take it back to the dealer ASAP. Let me check the Lemon laws for your state.

Well, you're assed out but I would still go to the dealer and bitch. Inform him that he sold you a car that has had trouble and is failing on you. He has to do right by you as a business man. If he refuses, leave the car in his lot and call your bank if it is financed and inform them of the situation. They should be willing to work with you. If the dealer starts to be an asshole, Inform him that you have no problem taking him to court but you'll be suing him for a lot more then just the car (Time off work etc)

Audi's having timing belt issues usually around 90k miles, its known this is a problem and an expensive one. I do not know the signs of a timing belt problem, but you should look into it.

Is your check engine light still on?

Goto a autozone or pepboys and have them pull the code, and post what the code was.

    (they pull codes for free)

reading over the MA lemon laws, your pretty much SOL on declaring it a lemon.

Anything sold between 80,000-125,000 miles gives you lemon protection rights for 30 days or 1,250 miles after purchase.

I'm no mechanic, but if it was a timing belt issue, his car would just not move correct?

Timing belt would cause the car to fire incorrectly, it would sputter. Definitely a noticeable difference from a transmission problem.

Have your codes pulled, it may be a cheap solution, hard to tell over the internet w/o them.
