Ok take it from a 4yr GW player right here:

The PVE is faggotish. All its really meant for IMO is for getting a really cool looking PVP char.

The PvP is based around balanced team play with ventrilo, if you want to have real fun the PvP is really the only way to go. Otherwise its all pointless grinding. The game fucking sucks even in PvP because you don't really get any cool rewards, but its fun atleast. All you get for a reward in PvP is an emote that you can flash at random people to show them that you can rape their face. I have a wolf to flash at people lol ^O^

If you really want to have fun, play with good people and have them show you the ropes in pvp.

Yeah I find the pvp-only stuff to be a bit lackluster in terms of communication and I stopped at 17 because it's hard as fuck to do some of the eye of the north quests

Also, the PvP really isn't too bad, but the PvE really is absolutely horrible, save yourself the trouble and just make some PvP characters unless (as stated) you want some awesome looking armor (that isn't any different statistically)
