I just upgraded from a SNES

Sorry for a waste of space, I just had to share my excitement. The computer I was running before was a piece of shit and had integrated graphics, 512 MB RAM, and maybe a 2 GHz processor? Iunno.

I'M SO EXCITED.

Plus I built my new shiny myself. And it has pretty blue lights!

Running now on:

ASUS P5N-D LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 750i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard
Intel Quad-Core 2.83 GHz processor (Q9550)
8gb DDR2 800 (OCZ Gold)
EVGA NVidia GeForce GTX 280

It's really amazing how much difference a major PC upgrade makes on the graphic quality of this game.. even at nearly seven years old! I think that's one of the factors that kept me playing so long.

Ah I see you only bought 4 parts, one of which is pretty cheap. The card is so-so, I thought at first you had built an entire system which then may have run you 2k. Are you going to overclock at all?

No, I actually bought more than four parts, those were just the parts I felt I needed to list.

But I only spent about $1000-1300 on it.

I might overclock, not really sure yet.
I also do a lot of Photoshop, and multitasking while photoshopping (FFXI, firefox, chat programs, and photoshop all at once) so that's where the RAM comes in.

I'm a photographer and graphic designer, so that's where that comes in.

It's doing this weird thing where, when playing ffxi, the screen will suddenly turn a solid color. The whole screen, it just freezes, there's nothing I can do, not alt+tab or ctrl+alt+del or anything, nothing but reboot. Any ideas, anyone?

It can happen after 10 minutes of playing ffxi, or after 2 hours... No set time. And I reinstalled my video drivers (new ones from nvidia.com).

Guess I should post this on the tech forum..

You should make a new thread for something like that in all honesty. Not everyone is going to click on a thread showing off a new computer, if there are problems, you need a new topic so the right people see it.
