Well, before I was banned and lost it all...I was more or less playing around with different gear set ups (just like anyone lol). When I was slaving my LS around, I didn't have enough time get get Ares gear and all that. So yes, I was using Onyx for the time being. All in all, even thought it might not have been the best choice, I was happy with its performance.
Is Aces Helm a must for apoc users? I see a lot of people using it but i seem to have great ACC using Askar. Just wanna see if i should waste a week or 2 camping Aces.
Depends on what %s of accuracy you are talking about when you say great ACC.
Ace's Helm isn't a must, but it's a very nice option when creating a maximal Aftermath build.
I've seen some people use Ares Head + Speed Belt + Dusk Gloves+1 + Homam Legs + Homam Feet. (Acc+21, Attack+18 Haste+16%.)
I personally like Aces + Speed Belt + Dusk Gloves+1 + Ares Legs + Aurum Feet. (STR+10, DEX+9, Acc+12, Attack+6, DA+2%, Haste+16%.)
I've never realli sat down and compared every possible build, but I have great results with the one above, and I feel it's the best~
For a non-Aftermath build, Turban might be your best bet since the Scythe comes /w Acc+20, and you'll probably have the merits/gear to gain more from the additional haste than the STR/Acc from helm~
Sorry for the necro, wanted to get someone to critique my gear, and I figured since this thread existed on the same topic, I'd post here.
I was thinking:
TP:
Bec de Faucon(Still need a little bit more for Apocalypse. Driving me batshit being so close to done.)
Pole Grip
Fire Bomblet
Askar Helm
Justice Torque
Brutal Earring
Abyssal Earring
Hauby+1 (Need a few mil more for Armada Berk)
Homam Manopolas
Sniper's Ring +1
Rajas Ring (I'll drop Tamas when I get Apoc completed)
Foragers Mantle
Swift Belt
Homam Cosciales
Aurum Sabatons
This setup should give me 16% haste, which caps me off with Aftermath. I'm aiming for 26% because you need that to really hit the Haste cap right? If I can ever claim that fucking crab, I'll drop Aurum Sabatons, Swift Belt, and Homam Cosciales for Velocious Belt, Homam Gambieras, and Onyx Cuisses.
Catastrophe:
Bec de Faucon
Pole Grip
Bomb Core
Gnadbhod's Helm
Soil Gorget
Brutal Earring
Abyssal Earring
Hauby+1 (Doing Salvage for my Ares body)
Onyx Gadlings (Well I'm looking for them, and the feet, I figured I'd list them for feedback)
Flame Ring
Flame Ring
Foragers Mantle
Sword Belt +1 (Trying for a decnt Augmented one)
Onyx Cuisses
Onyx Sollerets
I saw a setup similar to this posted already in the thread, but with just a couple differences.
FFXIGEAR.com
First off, I was thinking Gnadbhod's would be a better choice than Ares because of basically the same ATK, Gnadbhod's gives 0.5 more, while increasing base damage by at least 1 through fSTR. I'd lose out on a bit of ACC, but single hits are supposed to be virtually capped acc anyway, right?
Next up would be Justice Torque over the WS Gorget. I read somewhere on here, that Justice was actually supposed to be better for Catastrophe since it had a large fTP mod and a need for ATK+, do to it not getting a pDIF mod like SS and Y/G/K. Is this true? I keep trying to run my own numbers on it but it looks to me like the Gorget should be better than the Torque...at least when in high attack situations. Or any situation where pDIF > 1.0.
The last difference would be the Dropping of the Rajas for the second Flame Ring. With Apocalypse, You'd only need to have Rajas on for 4/6 hits to still maintain a 6 hit build. Also, as a Hume, the INT from having Flame on both ring slots would give me an additional 1 base damage.
I'm thinking the mix and match would give so much more ATK/STR+ than the full Ares set that the increase to Catastrophe damage over time would be better than the 7% DA.
get an ace's helm right now
As far as I'm aware, no one has done testing to see if there's a pdif boost using gorget. Majority of gorget testing was done under capped attack conditions so only the changed to the fTP portion were recorded. Cata is a 2.75 fTP ws, and gorget adds about ~.1 to ftp. This would be roughly ~3.6% increase in WS damage. The STR/Attack from Justice won't compare unless your WS damage is extremely low.
I remember looking at the math once and seeing that full Ares wouldn't help my Cata damage as much as a mixed set. I've also spoken to people who have tried full Ares Set /w Cata and found that avg WS damage was slightly lower than /w a mixed set. I'm still one piece off from the set myself, so I can't give you firsthand experience~
gorget will always be beter than justice
10 att 5 str will not outweigh the extra 20-30 damage from gorget
Dammit guy, you're the one that lead me to believe Justice may be better XD
Anyway @ Kirschy I didn't mean the gorget gave a pDIF boost, I was gomparing the fTP boost to the pDIF boost of Torque
I think there's a variety of mixed sets that work well. But the mixed set you listed is close to the one I use.
@ Leroy, I misread what you said earlier. It had been postulated before that gorgets might have included a pdif boost too. No formal testing has been done on cata pdif bonus, but from experience most can tell you that there is little to no pdif bonus when compared to Gekko.
try maat's cap for catas if you have
its wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better than a heca or ares
i personally use ares body too
also looking for a onyx leg
and also get a aurum hands if you going for mix set. i believe it will out perform drk af1+1 and heca(if you cant find onyx hands)
The only big spikes in CATA damage come from a DA proc. I'd be interested in formal testing but I have/had all the above mentioned gear and still keep going back to 5/5 Ares.
DAs acually seem pretty shitty to me seeing as there's an fTP value of 1 for DA hits and the mods on Catastrophe are ass, leading to a fail base Damage compared to a DA on something like SH, Right?
As for mixed/match vs Ares:
Gnadbhod's Helm
Ares Cuirass
Onyx Gadlings
Onyx Cuisses
Onyx Sollerets
STR+32 ATK+58(82 with ATK from STR)
Ares set
STR+22 ATK+43(~60 ATK from STR)
INT-3
That's a 3-4 base damage difference, and a 22ATK difference right there. Over time that should trump the shit out of 7% DA. I should also account for DA misses since there cap is 95%, and the DAs don't get the huge ACC boost, which shouldn't mean too much with +53ACC on a 2handed weapon.
You can't neglect acc too much, forget Gnadbhod's Helm, Ares head stays on.
Well since single-hits get a huge ACC boost, and you do have an A+ 2handed weapon with 20acc built onto it, I'm going to stick with my Gnadbhod's
