Tanaka has a character and will go invisible and just watch people party and stuff, so he gets a first hand account of how people do stuff lol. Whether or not they actually test some stuff or do things once it's been put into the game... who knows.. sure doesn't seem like it sometimes.

This is why you need to learn your material before you continue commenting on it. These kinds of ambiguous "I dunnos" are unacceptable for someone who is supposedly considering themselves a valid source. You don't appear to know anything about how game development works (to note, the vast majority of developers do not play their games), but you're trying to conduct a discussion where it's a subject.

Additionally, a statement like "who knows" shows that you haven't even looked into it. Did you really give up after boo-hooing over not getting your questions answered, or did you never give much of a damn in the first place? I'm assuming that when it comes to digging up dirt, you never even lifted the shovel.

Are any of your collaborators familiar with the internals of either the videogame industry or reporting in general? Have you ever done actual reputable journalistic work in any way, shape, or form? Have you ever attempted to research and understand your material, not to mention how to actually present yourself in a way that doesn't bore the shit out of people?

The thing about Tanaka is from the JP Button Twitter feed. We post little trivia stuff every 1-2 days. It is also possible Corinth mentioned it to him, as she is working on getting the full thing up on our site. It is from a manga-style interview in the latest ConnectOn that he did where he talks about some of the fun admin things he can do like morph his character into Maat or Shadow Lord and yes, go invis and watch people.

Excusing half-assery is just that. It's an excuse. If they aren't doing anything better than what the average Joe can do, what are they contributing to the community? Nothing. You can call that a sacrifice, "giving something back," or whatever you'd like, but the fact is, they have stepped up to supposedly provide something. If they can't deliver, they are the ones who need to step down, or to learn how to do what they're trying to properly.

There are skilled amateurs, there are terrible "professionals," and there are pretenders. Which do they wish to be? That's up to them.

EDIT: Additionally, if you weren't so furiously determined to defend them like a brown noser, you'd observe the suggestions dotted throughout my posts. Screening for talent is one of the largest. Trying to conduct some actual journalism work is another. Researching their material is a third. You call that not contributing? Why, because it isn't dusted with sugar and covered in whip cream with a cherry on top? Newsflash: Criticism isn't always delivered with kid gloves.

SE don't want us playing. They hate FFXI, people at square groan when they see FFXI is their new contract. It's their biggest consistent moneymaker though so they can't let it go.
Their really shitty content should be hints for people to move on but nobody's getting it.

Just a small comment on the JP update notes.

When the token announcement came out, I had a friend of mine read the JP notes to see if he could pull more information out of them. He said that the update notes were as badly written as those in the English ones. Later when he visited some of the JP boards, the posters were commenting that SE doesn't even know how to write Japanese. The posters there were just as confused as we were.

We never claimed to be professionals. We're just trying to give the community a good website for FFXI information.

To say we haven't contributed to the community is a load of BS. We broke the AV 18 hour story, we live blogged vana'fest and fan fest this year (crap ton of hits), and we're getting discussions with SE representatives on the podcast.
